Honourable Indian Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated the 37th National Games in Goa on October 25. One of the most popular sports in India, kabaddi, began play on November 3 and will conclude at the Campal Multi-Purpose Indoor Stadium on November 7.
The level and calibre of kabaddi in the country have multiplied tenfold since the establishment of the Pro Kabaddi League. Eight teams, divided into two pools, will compete for honours in the men’s division this year.
Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Chandigarh, as well as Punjab, make up Pool A. Services, Uttar Pradesh, and Goa, in addition to Haryana make up Pool B. Round-robin matches will determine the teams’ fate before moving on to the knockout phases.
Men’s Kabaddi action kicked off on November 3 with Maharashtra playing Punjab in the opening match. On November 6, the top two teams from Pool A and B will play in the semifinals, and the winners of those matches will advance to the final, which is scheduled for November 7. Uttar Pradesh won the 36th National Games in 2022, defeating Maharashtra 27-23 in the decisive game.
