The IPL 2026 season continues to redefine the boundaries of T20 cricket, and the 29th Match held at the Mullanpur Stadium in New Chandigarh on Sunday, was no exception. In a high-octane clash between the Punjab Kings (PBKS) and the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), fans witnessed a historical batting onslaught. While the venue has been known for its balanced tracks, the PBKS duo of Priyansh Arya and Cooper Connolly turned the surface into a highway, propelling their team to a mammoth total of 254/7.
The highlight of the evening and perhaps the season was an absolute demolition of the LSG bowling attack, specifically targeting the seasoned South African campaigner, Aiden Markram. In a tactical blunder that will likely be debated for the rest of the tournament, the decision to introduce spin against two well-set left-handers backfired spectacularly, resulting in the most expensive over of the 2026 edition.
Priyansh Arya and Cooper Connolly unleash carnage on Aiden Markram during PBKS vs LSG game
Entering the 13th over, PBKS were already cruising, but what followed was pure mayhem. LSG captain Rishabh Pant opted to hand the ball to Markram, hoping the off-spinner could find a breakthrough. Instead, he found himself at the receiving end of a 6, 6, 6, wd, 1, 6, 6 blitz (including 32 runs total) that left the Lucknow dugout in shock.
The carnage began when Connolly took strike for the first delivery. Markram fired a flatter ball outside off, which Connolly effortlessly lofted over the cover region for a clean six. Attempting to adjust, Markram pushed the second ball shorter to rush the batter; however, Connolly stayed deep in his crease and, despite a slight mishit, powered the pull over long-on.
The third delivery saw Markram aim for the blockhole, but he missed his mark by a whisker. Connolly, in the zone, belted it straight over the sightscreen for three-in-a-row. After a single put Arya on strike, the young sensation showed exactly why he was the Player of the Match. Arya greeted Markram by crunching a delivery over deep mid-wicket, followed by a final monstrous strike that sailed into the cheering New Chandigarh stands. The over yielded 32 runs, effectively breaking the spirit of the LSG bowling unit.

PBKS continue their unbeaten run in IPL 2026
The sheer weight of the 254-run target proved too much for the Lucknow Super Giants. Despite a valiant effort from the middle order, including Pant’s 43 and a late cameo by Markram himself (42 off 22), the asking rate was always out of reach. Marco Jansen and Arshdeep Singh led a disciplined bowling performance for PBKS, restricting LSG to 200/5 in their 20 overs.
With this 54-run victory, Punjab Kings have cemented their position at the top of the table, maintaining an incredible unbeaten run. Priyansh Arya’s blistering 93 off just 37 balls (7 fours, 9 sixes) earned him the MVP title, while Connolly’s supporting 87 proved that PBKS possesses the most dangerous top-order combination in the league this year. For LSG, sitting at the 8th spot, the road to the playoffs looks increasingly steep as they head into the second half of the season.
