Bangladesh scripted historic cricketing history by securing their first-ever bilateral ODI (One Day International) series victory over Australia. They clinched the three-match series with an unassailable 2-0 lead by winning the second match by 5 wickets via the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur. After restricting the visitors to 187/8 in a rain-affected 42-over contest, the hosts chased down the revised target with authority, reaching 195/5 in 35 overs to take a 2-0 lead in the three-match series. Prior to this series, Bangladesh had only beaten Australia in an ODI once in their cricket history—the legendary 2005 upset in Cardiff. This marks their first bilateral series triumph over the 6-time World Champions in this format.
Mustafizur Rahman destroys Australia with sizzling show
After winning the toss and opting to bat, Australia endured a disastrous start as Matthew Short and Cooper Connolly were both dismissed without troubling the scorers. Bangladesh’s new-ball attack, led by Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman, made full use of the conditions to reduce the visitors to a precarious position.
Josh Inglis attempted to rebuild with an entertaining 34 off 38 deliveries, striking four boundaries and a six, but Australia kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Matt Renshaw was dismissed for a duck, while Alex Carey could only contribute 13 runs before becoming another victim of Bangladesh’s disciplined attack. With Australia reeling, Marnus Labuschagne anchored the innings superbly with a patient 55 from 85 balls, holding one end together while wickets fell around him. Cameron Green chipped in with 25 off 50 deliveries, including two sixes, but struggled to accelerate against the tight bowling.
The late momentum came from Xavier Bartlett, whose aggressive 52 off just 48 balls featured four boundaries and two sixes. His valuable partnership with Labuschagne lifted Australia to 187/8 from their allotted 42 overs and gave the tourists something to defend. Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur shared six wickets between them, claiming three scalps each while maintaining pressure throughout the innings. Tanvir Islam also made an important contribution with two wickets.

Mehidy and Mosaddek finish the job as Bangladesh clinch historic series win
Bangladesh’s chase suffered an early setback when Tanzid Hasan Tamim departed without scoring, but Soumya Sarkar and Najmul Hossain Shanto steadied the innings with a fluent partnership. Soumya played positively for his 42 from 47 balls, hitting five fours and two sixes, while Shanto added a composed 41 off 53 deliveries.
Litton Das continued the momentum with a brisk 21 before falling, but Towhid Hridoy ensured there were no major hiccups in the chase. His measured 40 from 55 balls kept Bangladesh comfortably ahead of the required rate. Lower down the order, Mosaddek Hossain struck 15 from 14 balls and Mehidy Hasan Miraz remained unbeaten on 22 off 22 deliveries, including a six, to guide Bangladesh to 195/5 in 35 overs and complete a convincing DLS victory.
Australia’s bowlers struggled to build sustained pressure despite picking up wickets at intervals. Xavier Bartlett, Riley Meredith, Adam Zampa, Matt Renshaw and Green claimed one wicket each, but none could halt Bangladesh’s steady progress. With victories by 86 runs (DLS method) in the opening ODI and now by five wickets (DLS method) in Mirpur, Bangladesh have already secured the series 2-0. The third and final ODI will be played on Sunday, June 14, at the Shere Bangla National Stadium, where the hosts will aim for a clean sweep while Australia look to salvage some pride.
