Josh Tongue tears out off-stump with a stunning yorker to dismiss Mohammad Imran Randhawa on Day 1 of Edgbaston Test

England continued to put Pakistan under pressure on Day 1 of the third Test at Edgbaston, with the visitors struggling to build partnerships after Joe Root won the toss and opted to bowl first. Pakistan were eventually bowled out for 133 as England’s pace attack made regular breakthroughs.

Josh Tongue was one of the standout performers for England, finishing with four wickets. The fast bowler produced several important moments during the innings, including a superb delivery that ended Mohammad Imran Randhawa’s stay at the crease on his Test debut.

Randhawa had made a positive start to his Test debut, finding the boundary twice against Tongue as Pakistan’s lower order attempted to add some valuable runs. However, the England seamer eventually found a way through with a perfectly executed yorker.

In the 21st over, Tongue bowled a pinpoint delivery that went underneath Randhawa’s bat and crashed into the top of off-stump. The ball sent the stump cartwheeling and ended the Pakistan debutant’s stay at the crease.

Randhawa’s dismissal was another setback for Pakistan, who had already lost several key batters. Tongue had earlier dismissed Babar Azam for seven and later removed Ghazi Ghori and Saud Shakeel to finish with 4/42. Ollie Robinson and Jofra Archer also claimed three wickets each as Pakistan were bowled out for 133.

England then responded with the bat and reached 156/4 by stumps. Emilio Gay scored 60 while Harry Brook remained unbeaten on 52, giving England a 23-run first-innings lead at the end of the opening day. Pakistan, already 2-0 down in the series, now face a difficult task to avoid a clean sweep.
