Ollie Robinson strikes first ball as Saim Ayub falls for golden duck

Ollie Robinson made an immediate impact when Pakistan began their second innings on Day 2 of the third Test against England at Edgbaston. The England seamer produced a perfect start for the hosts by removing Saim Ayub with the very first delivery.

Ayub, returning to the Pakistan Test side, attempted an expansive drive at a full delivery outside off stump but could only manage a thick outside edge. Harry Brook reacted quickly at second slip to complete a sharp catch and send Ayub back for a golden duck.

Ollie Robinson dismisses Saim Ayub with first ball

Robinson bowled the opening delivery full and outside off, giving Ayub enough room to leave the ball alone. However, the Pakistan batter went for a big drive and got a thick edge that flew towards Brook at second slip. Brook was positioned closer than a conventional second slip and moved to his right before taking the catch securely with both hands.

The dismissal gave Robinson another first-ball wicket in the series and left Pakistan immediately under pressure. Ayub had no opportunity to settle at the crease, while Brook once again showed his quality in the slips with a composed catch to complete the dismissal.

The dismissal was followed by another immediate blow for Pakistan, with Robinson removing Abdullah Shafique just three balls later. Joe Root completed the catch at first slip as Pakistan were reduced to 0/2 after only four deliveries of their second innings. Pakistan eventually recovered through Shan Masood and Azan Awais, who added an unbeaten 52-run partnership. The visitors reached 52/2 before rain ended play early on Day 2 and still trailed England by 268 runs.

England had earlier posted 453 in their first innings, with Brook, Jamie Smith, Dan Lawrence, Emilio Gay and Ollie Robinson all making half-centuries. Robinson also finished the day with two wickets in Pakistan’s second innings, continuing his impressive run in the Test series.
