Jofra Archer rattles Tim Seifert’s stumps on a golden duck with an absolute jaffa during KKR vs RR showdown

The 28th match of the IPL 2026 season turned into an absolute cliffhanger at the iconic Eden Gardens as the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) hosted the Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Sunday. In a high-stakes Sunday night clash, the atmosphere was electric, but the home crowd was silenced almost instantly. Defending a modest total of 155, the Rajasthan Royals needed a miraculous start to stay in the hunt, and they found their saviour in the fiery pace of Jofra Archer.

Jofra Archer delivers a beauty to clean up Tim Seifert in KKR vs RR game

The second innings began with a moment that will undoubtedly be replayed on highlight reels for the rest of the season. As Tim Seifert took his guard to face the opening delivery of the chase, Archer steamed in from the High Court End. What followed was a technical masterpiece, an ‘absolute jaffa’ that redefined the term ‘unplayable.’

With the very first ball of the innings (0.1 over), Archer unleashed a delivery that was full, pacy, and loaded with late inward seam movement. Seifert, looking to find his footing, played for the line, but the ball jagged back sharply through the gate. The cherry zipped through the narrow gap between bat and pad, deflecting slightly off the pad before clattering into the middle and off-stump.

The sight of the woodwork being rattled sent the RR fielders into a frenzy. Seifert was forced to depart for a golden duck (0 off 1 ball), leaving KKR reeling at 0/1 within seconds of the restart. Archer’s opening burst of 1/11 in 2 overs set a tone of pure intimidation, proving once again why he remains one of the most lethal assets in T20 cricket.

RR counter-attacks with a clinical bowling masterclass against KKR

While Archer provided the initial spark, the Rajasthan Royals’ defense of 155 was built on a foundation of disciplined, tactical bowling that squeezed the life out of the KKR top order. After RR posted 155/9—thanks to a blistering 46 off 28 from young Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and a steady 39 from Yashasvi Jaiswal, the bowlers took over the mantle.

Following Archer’s breakthrough, Nandre Burger kept the pressure high, dismissing the KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane for a duck in the second over. Despite a brief, aggressive cameo from Cameron Green, who struck 27 off 13 balls, the RR spin twins took control of the middle overs. Ravindra Jadeja was particularly clinical, conceding only 5 runs in 2 overs and trapping Angkrish Raghuvanshi LBW for 10. Ravi Bishnoi added to the misery by removing the dangerous Green, leaving KKR struggling at 63/4 after 9 overs.

By the strategic timeout, KKR’s required run rate had climbed to 8.45, with 93 runs still needed from 66 deliveries. Despite the presence of Rovman Powell and Rinku Singh at the crease, the win probability remained a dead heat. The Royals’ ability to take wickets at regular intervals, mirroring KKR’s own bowling performance where Varun Chakravarthy (3/14) and Kartik Tyagi (3/22) shone, has turned this Eden Gardens showdown into a masterclass of defensive T20 bowling.
