South Africa began their tour of Namibia in commanding fashion, defeating the hosts by 99 runs via the DLS method in the opening match at the Namibia Cricket Ground. After Namibia opted to bowl first, the Proteas posted a formidable 348/6 in their 50 overs, with Jordan Hermann producing a sensational century. Namibia struggled to keep pace with the required rate during their chase and eventually finished on 162/8 in 31 overs.
Jordan Hermann leads South Africa’s batting charge
South Africa got off to a steady start before Hermann took control of the innings. The left-hander played a superb knock of 150 from 126 deliveries, striking 17 fours and three sixes. His innings provided the foundation for South Africa to build a huge total and earned him the Player of the Match award.
Tony de Zorzi provided excellent support at the other end, contributing a patient 72 from 84 balls, including seven fours and a six. Dewald Brevis added momentum with a quick 33 off 28 deliveries, while Corbin Bosch provided a strong finish with an unbeaten-looking contribution of 39 from 24 balls, including three sixes and a four. Jason Smith chipped in with 15, while Connor Esterhuizen and Rubin Hermann made 10 and 8 respectively.
Namibia’s Ruben Trumpelmann was their standout bowler despite conceding 68 runs in his 10 overs. He claimed four wickets, while Jonathan Smit and Gerhard Erasmus picked up one wicket apiece. Erasmus conceded 45 runs from seven overs, while Bernard Scholtz had an expensive outing, giving away 78 runs in his 10-over spell.
Namibia struggle in the chase
Facing a daunting target, Namibia found it difficult to maintain the required scoring rate. Malan Kruger top-scored with 34 from 60 balls, while Smit offered a late burst with 31 off just 20 deliveries, hitting three fours and two sixes. Gerhard Erasmus contributed 21 from 22 balls, while Ruben Trumpelmann added 14 from eight deliveries. However, Namibia lost wickets regularly and could only reach 162/8 after 31 overs, bringing their chase to an end under the DLS method.
South Africa’s bowlers shared the workload effectively, with Prenelan Subrayen producing the most impressive figures. The spinner claimed four wickets for just 29 runs in six overs. Kwena Maphaka also made a significant impact, taking two wickets for 32 runs. Duan Jansen and Bosch picked up one wicket each, while Bjorn Fortuin went wicketless despite completing his six-over spell.
