Australia Women completed a dominant 3-0 series whitewash against Bangladesh Women after securing an emphatic eight-wicket victory in the third ODI at Allan Border Field. Megan Schutt delivered a superb bowling performance to restrict the visitors to 172 before Ellyse Perry and Annabel Sutherland guided the hosts to victory with a commanding partnership.
Schutt was named Player of the Match for her outstanding spell and also claimed the Player of the Series award after finishing with 10 wickets across three matches. Australia continued their dominance throughout the series, having won the first ODI by seven wickets and the second by nine wickets.
Megan Schutt’s Four-Wicket Haul Restricts Bangladesh
After Australia elected to bowl, their bowlers made the most of the decision by consistently troubling Bangladesh’s batting lineup. Schutt led the attack with an excellent spell, claiming four wickets for just 16 runs in her 10 overs. Bangladesh struggled to establish momentum during the early stages of their innings. Murshida Khatun managed only one run, while Sharmin Sultana scored six. Captain Nigar Sultana was dismissed for three, leaving the visitors searching for stability.
Sharmin Akhter provided some resistance with a patient knock of 50 runs off 93 deliveries, striking eight boundaries. However, wickets continued to fall at regular intervals, preventing Bangladesh from building a substantial partnership. Shorna Akter emerged as the other major contributor, scoring 54 off 71 balls with four boundaries. Her innings helped Bangladesh recover from their difficult start and push towards a respectable total.
Rabeya Khan and Disha Biswas added 13 runs apiece, while Ritu Moni contributed nine. Australia’s bowling attack maintained its control throughout the innings, with Annabel Sutherland taking two wickets for 25 runs and Ashleigh Gardner claiming two for 49. Perry and Alana King picked up one wicket each as Bangladesh were bowled out for 172 in 49.5 overs.
Ellyse Perry and Annabel Sutherland Power Australia to Victory
Chasing 173, Australia made a flying start, with Georgia Voll scoring 11 off six deliveries and Beth Mooney contributing 21 off 14 balls. Although both openers departed early, the hosts remained firmly in control of the chase. Perry and Sutherland then combined to produce a match-winning partnership, completely taking the pressure off the Australian batting lineup. Perry played a composed innings of 65 from 64 deliveries, finding the boundary eight times.
At the other end, Sutherland delivered an aggressive performance, smashing an unbeaten 74 off just 52 balls. Her innings featured 12 boundaries and ensured that Australia moved rapidly towards the target. The pair capitalised on Bangladesh’s bowling difficulties and took the game away from the visitors. Sultana Khatun and Biswas claimed one wicket apiece, but Bangladesh could not find a breakthrough to disrupt Australia’s momentum.
Australia eventually reached 175/2 in just 22.4 overs, completing an eight-wicket victory with 27.2 overs remaining. Sutherland remained unbeaten alongside Perry as the hosts wrapped up another convincing performance. The victory capped an outstanding series for Australia Women, who won all three ODIs against Bangladesh. They began with a seven-wicket triumph in the opening match before securing a nine-wicket victory in the second encounter.
