Suryakumar Yadav has revealed the one skill he would like to have from another cricketer, with the Indian star making an intriguing choice when asked about the quality he would want to add to his own game. The Mumbai Indians (MI) batter was presented with the opportunity to pick from several established stars but instead looked towards a young player who has made a huge impression in 2026.

While several established names could have been obvious choices, the Mumbai Indians batter instead picked Vaibhav Suryavanshi. Suryakumar did not hesitate when giving his answer and identified a particular aspect of a young batter’s game that has attracted widespread attention. He picked six-hitting ability, highlighting the impact of power at the top level of T20 cricket.

“There is a young boy, you must have heard his name – Vaibhav Suryavanshi. Definitely his six-hitting ability,” Suryakumar said while speaking to Humans of Bombay.

The choice was particularly notable considering the number of established Indian and international stars who could have been selected. Instead, Suryakumar pointed towards a player who has made a major impact despite being only 15 years old.

Record-breaking IPL season puts young star in spotlight

Suryavanshi produced a remarkable IPL 2026 season, scoring 776 runs in 16 matches at a stunning strike rate of 237.31. He also hit 72 sixes during the tournament, the most by any player in a single IPL edition, and finished with both the Orange Cap and the Most Valuable Player award. His performances earned him a place in India’s T20I setup, while he is also part of the country’s squad for the 2026 Asian Games.

Suryakumar, meanwhile, had a difficult IPL 2026 campaign by comparison, scoring 270 runs in 12 innings as Mumbai Indians finished ninth in the 10-team tournament. His struggles were followed by changes to his international role, with the batter losing the India T20I captaincy and being left out of the T20I side.

Despite the difficult season, recent reports have indicated that Suryakumar is set to remain with Mumbai Indians for IPL 2027. His comments underline the impression made by the young batter during a season in which he established himself as one of the most explosive six-hitters in the competition.
