West Indies produced a stunning batting display in the third ODI against India as captain Shai Hope smashed an unbeaten 162 to guide his team to a memorable five-wicket victory in New Chandigarh. Chasing a daunting target of 352, West Indies reached 352/5 in 48.2 overs, completing one of their most impressive ODI run chases.
The result gave West Indies a consolation win in the series finale, while India secured the three-match ODI series 2-1 after winning the opening two games.
KL Rahul’s unbeaten 129 helps India post 351
India were put under early pressure after losing Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli cheaply. With India reduced to 28/2, Rohit Sharma and Ruturaj Gaikwad steadied the innings and began rebuilding the innings.
Rohit went on to score a fluent 92, falling just eight runs short of a century. Gaikwad also contributed a half-century before his dismissal left the responsibility on KL Rahul to take India towards a competitive total.
Rahul responded brilliantly. The wicketkeeper-batter remained unbeaten on 129, producing a superb late-innings assault. He accelerated dramatically during the final stages, striking five sixes in the closing overs as India finished with 351/7 in 50 overs.
Rahul’s unbeaten century was his highest ODI score and gave India what appeared to be a formidable total to defend.

Shai Hope leads West Indies’ record chase
West Indies began their chase aggressively, with John Campbell and Shai Hope immediately putting India’s bowlers under pressure. Hope found the boundary regularly while Campbell provided early momentum.
India eventually broke the opening partnership when Mohammed Siraj dismissed Campbell, but that did little to slow the visitors. Amir Jangoo joined Hope and helped establish a strong platform for the chase.
Jangoo scored a valuable 67, continuing his impressive run during the series. His partnership with Hope ensured West Indies remained comfortably placed despite India’s attempts to create pressure.
Hope continued to grow in confidence and reached his century, his 21st ODI hundred. More importantly, he remained at the crease as wickets fell around him.
The equation eventually came down to 81 runs from the final 10 overs, with Hope still firmly in control of the chase.
India briefly threatened a comeback after dismissing Keemo Paul and Matthew Forde in quick succession. With the West Indies middle order under pressure, Hope once again took responsibility.
The captain attacked the Indian spinners and accelerated during the final phase. He found boundaries against India’s bowlers and took advantage of the fielding restrictions before the chase entered its final stages.
A costly over from Anshul Kamboj effectively settled the contest, leaving West Indies within touching distance of victory.
Hope completed the chase in style, finishing unbeaten on 162, while West Indies crossed the 351-run mark with 10 balls remaining.

West Indies complete memorable win
The victory was particularly impressive because West Indies successfully chased down 352, despite India having produced a huge total.
Hope’s 162 was the defining performance of the match, while Jangoo’s 67 provided important support during the middle overs. The West Indies captain showed remarkable composure to bat through the entire chase and finish the job himself.
For India, Rahul’s unbeaten 129 and Rohit’s 92 were outstanding individual contributions, but the bowling attack could not defend the imposing total.
