Shreyas Iyer has made a huge jump in the latest ICC T20I rankings after his match-winning century against West Indies in the series opener in Lucknow. The India T20I captain climbed 18 places to a career-best seventh position after smashing an unbeaten 102 off just 43 balls, with 10 fours and six sixes.
Iyer’s rise means India now have four batters inside the T20I top 10, with Ishan Kishan and Abhishek Sharma occupying the top two spots and Tilak Varma sitting at No. 10. Meanwhile, Shubman Gill continued his reign at the top of the ODI batting rankings following his unbeaten 223 in the second ODI against West Indies.
Shreyas Iyer climbs to career-best seventh in T20I rankings
Iyer’s sensational innings in Lucknow earned him an 18-place jump in the latest rankings. The 31-year-old reached his maiden T20I century against West Indies from just 43 deliveries and played a key role in India’s eight-wicket victory. The knock came in Iyer’s 57th T20I innings and took him into the top 10 for the first time in his international career. His seventh-place position also makes him India’s third-highest-ranked batter in the format behind Ishan Kishan and Abhishek Sharma.
There was plenty of movement in the T20I bowling rankings as well. Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan reclaimed the No. 1 position from Pakistan’s Abrar Ahmed after the conclusion of the Asian Games in Japan. It is the eighth time Rashid has reached the top spot. India’s Axar Patel was another major mover, climbing 16 places to seventh after taking two wickets in each of his three matches during the week. Bangladesh’s Nasum Ahmed rose three spots to eighth, while Mahedi Hasan jumped 10 places to ninth.
