Sri Lanka Cricket has announced its squads for the upcoming multi-format tour of the West Indies, with wicketkeeper-batter Kusal Mendis being entrusted with the captaincy in both ODI and T20I formats. The move marks a significant leadership change for Sri Lanka’s white-ball setup as Mendis replaces Charith Asalanka in ODIs and Dasun Shanaka in T20 internationals.
Mendis, who has previously captained Sri Lanka in 17 ODIs, will now oversee the side across both limited-overs formats during the Caribbean tour. The selectors have also welcomed back several key names from injury layoffs, adding experience and balance to the touring party.
Wanindu Hasaranga and Eshan Malinga return after injury setbacks
One of the biggest boosts for Sri Lanka is the return of star leg-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga, who had been sidelined with a left hamstring injury. The injury forced him to miss the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 as well as the IPL 2026 season. Hasaranga has now recovered and has been named in both the ODI and T20I squads.
Fast bowler Eshan Malinga has also earned a recall after an impressive IPL campaign with Sunrisers Hyderabad. Malinga had earlier missed the T20 World Cup due to a shoulder injury, but his recent form has convinced selectors to bring him back into the national setup for the white-ball leg of the tour.
Another notable comeback comes in the form of pacer Dushmantha Chameera, who returns to Sri Lanka’s ODI squad after missing the home series against England earlier this year. Chameera recently featured briefly for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2026 and will add valuable pace experience to the bowling attack.

Test squad sees recalls for Nishan Madushka and Lahiru Kumara
Sri Lanka’s Test squad also includes several returning players as the team prepares for a challenging two-match series in the Caribbean. Opening batter Nishan Madushka has been recalled after nearly two years away from the Test side, having last played during the England tour in 2024. All-rounder Ramesh Mendis returns to the red-ball squad after his previous appearance against Australia in early 2025. Meanwhile, experienced fast bowler Lahiru Kumara is back after recovering from the injury that ruled him out of the Bangladesh home series.
In the T20I squad, opener Lasith Croospulle has earned a recall after playing just one international match back in 2023. Pace bowlers Binura Fernando and Nuwan Thushara have also been included for the shortest format.
Sri Lanka’s tour of the West Indies will begin with a three-match ODI series scheduled from June 3 to June 8. The action will then shift to T20Is on June 12, 14 and 15 before concluding with a two-match Test series starting on June 25. The Sri Lankan squad is set to depart for the Caribbean on Tuesday, May 26, as preparations begin for an important overseas assignment across all three formats.
