Suryakumar Yadav has opened up about his hopes of making a return to the Indian T20I team after losing his place in the squad for the upcoming tours of Ireland and England. The 35-year-old batter has endured a difficult period with the bat, with his recent form and India’s plans for the next two-year cycle reportedly influencing the selectors’ decision.

Despite the setback, Suryakumar remains determined to work his way back into contention. Having previously established himself as one of India’s most important T20I batters and led the team to the T20 World Cup title, the Mumbai Indians star will now look to regain his consistency and force his way back into the national setup.

Suryakumar Yadav remains hopeful of India comeback

Speaking at an event for the Pro Govinda League, Suryakumar was asked about his plans after being left out of India’s upcoming T20I squads. The former captain made it clear that he is focused on continuing his preparations rather than dwelling on his omission.

“I’m putting in all the hard work and doing everything I can. If things go well, then everything will fall into place,” Suryakumar said.

Suryakumar’s recent performances have not matched the remarkable standards he had previously set in the shortest format. He also endured a difficult IPL 2026 campaign, adding to the concerns surrounding his place in India’s T20I setup. The batter, however, remains an important part of Mumbai Indians and has plenty of experience at the international level. After taking over as India’s T20I captain following Rohit Sharma’s retirement from the format, Suryakumar guided the team to another T20 World Cup triumph.

Suryakumar looks to regain consistency

Suryakumar’s omission comes at a significant point in India’s preparations for the next global T20 cycle. With selectors looking to build towards the upcoming tournaments, the former world No. 1 T20I batter will need to rediscover his best form to push his case for a comeback. Away from the selection setback, Suryakumar also shared a light-hearted moment with Sri Lanka great Sanath Jayasuriya during an event in Colombo.

He jokingly asked Jayasuriya whether he was getting fitter and preparing for an international comeback, prompting a smile from the former Sri Lankan opener. For Suryakumar, though, the immediate focus remains on his own comeback. His experience, T20I record and ability to change games make him difficult to completely overlook, but he will now have to back his confidence with consistent performances if he wants to return to India’s plans.
