India‘s landmark victory in the historic women’s Test at Lord’s was accompanied by a series of emotional moments as the visitors paid tribute to England greats Heather Knight and Tammy Beaumont, who brought the curtains down on their international careers. While Harmanpreet Kaur‘s side celebrated a memorable 270-run triumph at the Home of Cricket, the post-match atmosphere shifted from jubilation to admiration as players from both teams came together to honour two of England’s finest cricketers.

The Indian squad acknowledged Knight and Beaumont with heartfelt gestures both on and off the field, ensuring that their farewell match ended with memories that extended beyond the result.

After the match, the Indian dressing room became the setting for an emotional send-off. Vice-captain Smriti Mandhana presented Knight with an India jersey featuring the former England captain’s name on the back before embracing her warmly. Moments later, Jemimah Rodrigues greeted Beaumont with a hug as the Indian players applauded the veteran opener, who was also presented with an India jersey signed by the entire squad.

“You know, cricket is all about making memories, and we as the Indian team just want to leave you with a small memory, on your last match for England. Congratulations and all the best for everything,” said Jemimah in a video shared by England Cricket.

Notably, the tributes had begun much earlier in the Test match. As Knight and Beaumont walked out to bat in their final international appearances, the Indian players formed guard of honours for both veterans. The pair were greeted with standing ovations from teammates, opponents and spectators at Lord’s, creating one of the defining moments of the match.

The farewell celebrations were further enhanced by the presence of batting icon Sachin Tendulkar, who met both players during the Test and congratulated them on their remarkable careers. Knight and Beaumont later posed for photographs with the Indian legend, adding another memorable chapter to an already emotional occasion.

Knight leaves behind remarkable leadership legacy

Knight retires as one of the most influential figures in England women’s cricket. Having made her international debut in 2009, she went on to represent England in more than 300 matches across all three formats while becoming one of the team’s most dependable performers with the bat.

Her greatest achievement came in 2017 when she captained England to Women’s World Cup glory at Lord’s. In a thrilling final against India, England secured a dramatic nine-run victory, with Knight becoming only the third England captain to lift the prestigious trophy.

She also oversaw one of the most successful eras in England women’s cricket during her tenure as captain from 2016 to 2025, finishing her career with more than 7,000 international runs.

Beaumont signs off as one of England’s greatest openers

Beaumont also leaves the international stage with an outstanding record. Since making her debut in 2009, the right-handed opener established herself as one of England’s most consistent batters, compiling over 8,000 international runs across formats. The stylinsh batter remains England Women’s most prolific ODI century-maker with 12 hundreds and is among the select few England players to have scored international centuries in Tests, ODIs and T20Is.

As Lord’s witnessed India’s historic triumph, it also became the venue for an unforgettable farewell. The respect shown by the Indian team underlined the spirit of cricket, ensuring Knight and Beaumont’s final appearance was remembered not only for their extraordinary achievements but also for the warmth and admiration they received from one of their fiercest rivals.
