The standout moment of London Spirit’s tumultuous innings arrived around the 34th ball, when world-class left-arm spinner Sophie Ecclestone delivered a piece of magic to dismiss danger-woman Deandra Dottin.

With London Spirit already reeling at 28 for 4 following early strikes from Grace Ballinger, Maitlan Brown, and Ryana MacDonald-Gay, Dottin was tasked with steadying the ship. However, Ecclestone had other plans. Bowling fullish just outside off-stump, Ecclestone pushed in a crisp arm-ball that slid through quickly. Dottin, attempting to play across the line, was completely bamboozled by the subtle drift and speed. The ball nicked the inside edge before crashing straight into the stumps, sending Dottin back to the dugout for just 4 runs off 9 balls.

Ecclestone’s beauty reduced London Spirit to a dire 28/5 in just 34 deliveries, completely deflating the Spirit top-order. Ecclestone finished her relentless 20-ball spell with astonishing figures of 1 wicket for just 7 runs (including 15 dot balls), ensuring the Spirit batters never found their rhythm or room to breathe.

London Spirit’s batting unit found no respite throughout the first innings. Player of the Match Ryana MacDonald-Gay wrecked the middle and lower order with a career-defining spell, snaring 4 wickets for 17 runs in her 16 balls. With Grace Harris (4), Amy Jones (0), and Marizanne Kapp (17) back in the pavilion early during a punishing mandatory powerplay (23/4), London Spirit was eventually bundled out for a meagre 80 runs in 91 balls.

Chasing a target of 81 runs, Manchester Super Giants made light work of the task. Opening batter Smriti Mandhana set the tone with a quickfire 17 off 14 balls, while skipper Meg Lanning anchored the top order with 21 off 24.

Though Marizanne Kapp fought hard with the ball for London Spirit, taking 2 for 18 off her 20 deliveries, Paige Scholfield (22 off 15 balls*) and Richa Ghosh (15 off 5 balls*) slammed the door shut. Ghosh closed out the contest in style, powering MSG-W past the target to finish at 86/3 in just 59 balls to seal a memorable 7-wicket victory.
