West Indies captain Shai Hope will look to steady the ship with a similar batting unit that managed 295 for 7 in the opening match. Despite a solid start, the Windies lost their way in the middle overs, eventually finishing with a total that was significantly below par.

John Campbell and Justin Greaves provided a solid foundation in the series opener, and their retention in the top order suggests West Indies will persist with this combination. The opening partnership of 135 runs proved effective despite the team’s eventual loss, offering Hope’s side a platform to build larger totals. Greaves will also be looking to build on his maiden ODI century.
Keacy Carty, who has been the team’s anchor at one-drop, was found wanting, having struggled to score big runs and will be looking to make amends in the second game in Guwahati.
Middle order: Shai Hope (c/wk), Amir Jangoo, Jewel Andrew, Roston Chase
Captain Shai Hope was able to manage just a score of 12, falling prey to Kuldeep Yadav, and will be looking to make amends and lead his side from the front. He will also be taking the gloves for his side. Amir Jangoo took over West Indies’ back-end overs, finishing unbeaten on 58 off 43 balls.
Roston Chase and Jewel Andrew complete the middle-order contingent, with Andrew offering depth to the batting lineup. Chase provides all-round capability, balancing the side between batting and bowling resources. He also took the wicket of Shubman Gill, but it was too little, too late to salvage the game.
Lower order: Matthew Forde, Gudakesh Motie, Alzarri Joseph, Jayden Seales
The bowling attack features Matthew Forde, Gudakesh Motie, Alzarri Joseph and Jayden Seales. Motie leads the spin attack with his left-arm spin, and has become one of the West Indies’ most reliable bowlers in the white-ball game. Forde in an impeccable bowler for the middle and death overs, and can offer bounce with his hit-the-deck skills.
Joseph and Seales are expected to lead the attack, taking the new ball and being able to take wickets early in the powerplay. Joseph took the wicket of Rohit Sharma in the previos game, but was expensive, conceding 81 runs in ten overs, while Seales went wicketless.
