CSK CEO on Hardik Pandya trade rumours to CSK ahead of IPL 2027

Ever since the conclusion of the IPL 2026 season, speculation surrounding Hardik Pandya‘s future has dominated cricket discussions. Multiple reports have suggested that the Indian all-rounder could part ways with the Mumbai Indians ahead of IPL 2027 following another disappointing campaign for the five-time champions. Several franchises have reportedly shown interest in acquiring the star all-rounder, sparking rumours of a blockbuster transfer before next season. Among the latest teams linked with Pandya was Chennai Super Kings (CSK), and the franchise has now responded to the growing buzz.

Will Hardik Pandya represent CSK in IPL 2027? CSK CEO responds

The Chennai Super Kings have firmly dismissed reports claiming they are planning a trade move for Pandya ahead of the IPL 2027 season. Fresh speculation emerged on Wednesday suggesting that the Chennai-based franchise was preparing to make a sensational move for the Mumbai Indians captain. However, CSK Chief Executive Officer Kasi Viswanathan rejected the reports, making it clear that no such discussions have taken place.

“We have not had any discussion. This will be done only after the season review, which will happen only after the MLC,” Viswanathan told Hindustan Times Digital.

His statement effectively puts an end, at least for now, to the rumours linking Pandya with a switch to the five-time IPL champions. CSK’s management is currently focused on their commitments in the United States, where the franchise also owns Texas Super Kings in Major League Cricket (MLC). As a result, the franchise has not yet begun its formal review process for the IPL 2027 season.

Pandya’s name has been at the centre of trade speculation since Mumbai Indians endured another underwhelming campaign. Earlier reports claimed that Kolkata Knight Riders had already held multiple rounds of discussions with the Mumbai Indians management regarding a possible trade. Rajasthan Royals were also mentioned as interested suitors, although a potential swap involving Yashasvi Jaiswal was considered highly unlikely given Rajasthan’s long-term plans around Riyan Parag‘s leadership.

A poor IPL 2026 campaign fuels speculation

The growing uncertainty surrounding Pandya’s future comes after one of the toughest IPL seasons of his career. The star all-rounder struggled to make his usual impact with the bat, scoring 206 runs in 10 matches at an average of 22.89 and a strike rate of 138.25. His highest score of the season was 40, while he failed to register a half-century throughout the campaign.

Pandya also endured a below-par season with the ball, managing just four wickets in the tournament. His difficulties were mirrored by Mumbai Indians’ disappointing campaign. Under Pandya’s leadership, the franchise won only four of their 14 league matches and finished ninth on the points table with just eight points, missing the playoffs comfortably.

The result further intensified scrutiny over the team’s direction under his captaincy. Mumbai Indians have qualified for the playoffs only once in the last three seasons during Pandya’s tenure as captain, with their best finish being third place in IPL 2025 before slipping to ninth in 2026.
