Zimbabwe Women and West Indies Women are set to begin their three-match ODI series on September 24 at the Harare Sports Club. The series forms part of the ICC Women’s Championship 2025-29 cycle and will be followed by a three-match T20I series in October.
West Indies Women enter the series after a strong run of form, including a 3-0 ODI series sweep over Ireland. They currently sit fifth in the Women’s Championship standings with four wins from nine matches, while Zimbabwe are tenth after losing all six of their matches in the current cycle.
Zimbabwe Women, meanwhile, are entering an important phase as they continue to build their side in the Women’s Championship. The series will also mark the first bilateral meeting between the two teams across formats, giving both sides a fresh contest in international cricket.
West Indies Women look to build on strong recent form
West Indies Women will be led by Hayley Matthews during the ODI series and have retained much of the core that featured in their recent assignments. Stafanie Taylor, Afy Fletcher and other experienced players provide a strong senior presence, while the squad also includes several younger players looking to establish themselves at international level. Matthews has been one of the standout performers for West Indies, contributing significantly with both bat and ball. Taylor also remains an important middle-order presence, while Fletcher will be expected to play a key role with her leg-spin.
The visitors will, however, be without Deandra Dottin, who has been granted personal leave. Eboni Brathwaite has been included as her replacement, while Chinelle Henry returns to the squad after recovering from the injury that ruled her out of the ODI series in Ireland.
Zimbabwe Women begin an important Championship campaign
Zimbabwe Women will be looking to make better use of home conditions after a difficult start to their Women’s Championship campaign. The hosts have lost all six of their matches in the current cycle and will be aiming to put together a stronger performance against an experienced West Indies side.
The team has also been going through a transition period following the retirement of former captain Mary-Anne Musonda. Players such as Kelis Ndhlovu and Beloved Biza will be among those expected to contribute with the bat, while Tendai Makusha has shown promise with the ball. The three-match series gives Zimbabwe an opportunity to gain valuable Championship points and test their developing squad against a side arriving with considerable recent ODI experience.
