MI Cape Town clinched a commanding 34-run victory against Pretoria Capitals at SuperSport Park in Centurion on Thursday, February 1. The triumph for Cape Town was underscored by stellar performances from Ryan Rickelton and Dewald Brevis. Notably, Brevis added a memorable touch to Cape Town’s victory with a no look six, contributing to the team’s success.

Rassie van der Dussen and Ryan Rickleton set aggressive tone in powerplay

Choosing to bat first proved to be a strategic triumph for the Cape Town, with openers Rassie van der Dussen and Rickleton unleashing a barrage of boundaries against the Capitals’ bowling attack, amassing an impressive 66/1 by the conclusion of the powerplay.

Even after van der Dussen’s departure in the 5th over, the visitors exhibited no mercy, consistently dispatching the ball out of the park and disrupting the Capitals’ bowling plans. The Cape Town innings gained further impetus with stellar performances from Brevis and Sam Curran, propelling their side to a commanding 198/4 by the 17th over. Brevis, amid a challenging season, showcased exceptional batting skills, scoring 66 off 32 deliveries, including a distinctive no look six.

Dewald Brevis’s ‘no look’ six steals the show

This unique shot took place in the 19th over when Daryn Dupavillon bowled a full-length delivery at the stumps. Brevis lofted the ball high in the air, sending it miles towards wide long-on for a spectacular six. The remarkable aspect was that he didn’t look at the ball, keeping his head down throughout. The crowd in Centurion erupted in excitement, thoroughly impressed with Brevis’ personalized touch. With Brevis’s exceptional innings, the visitors posted a mammoth 248/4 in 20 overs.

Kyle Verreynne’s heroics in vain as Pretoria Capitals fall short in chase

Facing a challenging target of 249, the Capitals found themselves in dire straits, slumping to 42/6 in just 5.4 overs. While Kyle Verreynne and captain Wayne Parnell initiated a fightback, guiding the team to a partial recovery at 120/6, the partnership was eventually broken.

Verreynne, running out of partners, took on the responsibility to lead the chase, unleashing a barrage of boundaries in the final four overs to complete a remarkable century. Despite Verreynne’s outstanding innings, the Capitals fell short, reaching a total of 214 runs in 20 overs and losing the match by 34 runs.
