Australia and the West Indies are all set to continue their ongoing Test series by facing off in the second Test that is scheduled to begin from January 25. Both sides will face off at The Gabba and after winning the first Test, the Aussies will hope for a similar performance in the upcoming game.
The first Test of the series saw West Indies come in to bat first after losing the toss. After the openers’ early dismissal, the knock of Kirk McKenzie scoring 50 runs in 94 deliveries anchored the innings for the Windies. Shamar Joseph added 36 runs on the board in the lower order as the visitors posted a total of 188 runs in the first innings.
As for Australia, Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins were the highest wicket takers in the first innings with four wickets each to their names. Mitchell Starc and Nathan Lyon took one wicket each as well.
Coming in to bat, Australia put forth a brilliant performance in the first innings. Usman Khawaja scored 45 runs to open the innings with Travis Head scoring 119 runs in 134 deliveries. Posting 283 runs in the first innings, Australia managed to take a good lead.
Aiming to defend it, the hosts performed sensationally as the Windies were dismissed for just 120 runs in the second innings. Josh Hazlewood was the highest wicket taker for Australia in the second innings with five wickets to his name. Nathan Lyon and Mitchell Starc took two wickets each as well.
Australia got a target of just 26 runs to win the first Test and the hosts did so comfortably, winning the game by 10 wickets. As the second Test approaches, the Pat Cummins-led side will be hopeful of a similar performance and clinching the series as well.
