India’s squad for the upcoming West Indies ODI series has brought several familiar names back into the 50-over setup while also opening the door for a couple of new faces.
The 15-member squad, announced by the BCCI on September 16, includes Ravindra Jadeja, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Yashasvi Jaiswal among others. The three-match ODI series begins on September 27 in Thiruvananthapuram, followed by games in Guwahati and New Chandigarh on September 30 and October 3.

1. Ruturaj Gaikwad
Ruturaj Gaikwad makes his return to India’s ODI setup after being away from the format since the home series against South Africa last year.
The Maharashtra batter is one of India’s technically sound top-order options and has built an impressive record across domestic cricket and franchise cricket. His ability to pace an innings while accelerating later makes him a natural candidate for the middle order.
With Shubman Gill, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli occupying the top-order spots, Gaikwad could potentially operate at No. 4, the position left vacant by Shreyas Iyer for this series.
The West Indies series therefore provides Gaikwad with an opportunity to strengthen his case in India’s plans for the 2027 ODI World Cup.
2. Dhruv Jurel
Dhruv Jurel has earned another opportunity in India’s ODI setup, this time as one of the wicketkeeping options alongside KL Rahul.
Jurel was not selected for the England ODI series, where India had KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan as their wicketkeeping choices. He subsequently returned to the ODI squad for the West Indies series.
The Rajasthan Royals wicketkeeper-batter has already demonstrated his temperament at international level, particularly in Test cricket. His calm approach behind the stumps and ability to contribute with the bat make him a useful second wicketkeeper.
The selectors’ decision to pick him ahead of Rishabh Pant for this ODI series also makes his inclusion noteworthy.
3. Ravindra Jadeja
Ravindra Jadeja is one of the biggest comeback stories in the squad.
The veteran all-rounder was not part of India’s England ODI squad and returns to the format after last playing an ODI against New Zealand in January 2026.
Jadeja’s value remains clear: he provides left-handed batting, left-arm orthodox spin and elite fielding in one package.
His return also comes at a time when Axar Patel is with India’s Asian Games squad, making Jadeja an important spin-bowling all-rounder for the West Indies ODIs.
The series could offer him valuable game time as India continue building towards the 2027 World Cup.
4. Mohammed Siraj
Like Jadeja, the BCCI decided to rest Mohammed Siraj as part of workload management. The selectors rather went with names like Jasprit Bumrah, Prasidh Krishna, Harshit Rana, Arshdeep Singh and Gurnoor Brar on the England tour.
Siraj has now been selected for the West Indies series and is expected to provide experience to a pace attack that also includes Krishna and Brar.
Siraj’s ability to attack with the new ball and generate movement makes him an important part of India’s 50-over plans.
5. Auqib Nabi
Auqib Nabi is one of the most intriguing new additions.
The Jammu and Kashmir all-rounder has received his maiden ODI call-up after impressing in domestic cricket. He had previously been included in India’s Test squad for the Sri Lanka tour but did not make his international debut.
Nabi’s attraction lies in his ability to contribute with both bat and ball.
His 2025/26 Vijay Hazare Trophy campaign was particularly productive. He claimed 14 wickets at an average of 22.85 while also scoring 221 runs at an average of 55.25 and a strike rate of 145.
The West Indies series could therefore be the first step towards establishing himself in India’s ODI setup.
6. Yashasvi Jaiswal
Yashasvi Jaiswal returns to India’s ODI squad after missing the England series.
The left-handed opener has already demonstrated his ability to score heavily in international cricket, and his inclusion gives India another top-order option alongside Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill.

Jaiswal’s ODI career has started impressively. He scored his maiden ODI century against South Africa and followed it with an unbeaten 110 off 86 balls against Afghanistan in his most recent ODI appearance.
With India looking ahead to the 2027 World Cup, regular ODI opportunities could be particularly important for Jaiswal.
7. Naman Dhir
Naman Dhir is the other player alongside Auqib Nabi to receive a maiden ODI call-up for the West Indies series.
The Punjab-born all-rounder has made his name primarily through T20 cricket and his performances for Mumbai Indians. He can bat aggressively and also contribute with the ball, giving India another flexible option.
Dhir’s selection came after a productive campaign in the Sher-e-Punjab T20 League, where he scored 626 runs in nine innings at a strike rate of 217, according to Wisden.
His limited List A experience has made his selection an interesting talking point, but the West Indies series gives him an opportunity to show that his skills can translate into 50-over cricket.
