Suresh Raina on Rohit Sharma

In a move that has sparked discussions about leadership, selflessness, and team spirit, former Indian cricketer Suresh Raina has praised current Indian captain Rohit Sharma for his decision to opt out of the fifth and final Test against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). This choice, according to Raina, reflects Sharma’s commitment to the team’s success over personal milestones.

Rohit Sharma’s decision to opt out

Rohit, who has been struggling with his form in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, scoring only 31 runs in three matches, decided to “rest” himself for the Sydney Test. This decision was not taken lightly, as Rohit had been the focal point of India’s batting lineup and leadership. Instead of playing, Rohit chose to step aside, allowing Jasprit Bumrah to lead the team in this crucial match, aiming to retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Suresh Raina lauds Rohit for his selfless act

Raina, the former teammate and close associate of Rohit, took to social media to express his admiration for this act of leadership. Raina praised Rohit for his exemplary leadership qualities, highlighting his honesty, selflessness, and team-first approach. Raina emphasized that Rohit consistently prioritizes the success of the team over personal milestones, even stepping aside when required for the greater good. His leadership in the ongoing Test series has showcased his unwavering commitment to India’s success, solidifying his status as a true legend in the sport.

“Rohit Sharma exemplifies leadership through honesty and selflessness. Despite personal challenges, he prioritizes team success, stepping aside when necessary. His leadership in the current Test series reflects his unwavering dedication to India’s success. A true legend of the game,” Raina wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
