West Indies got off to a shaky start in the second Test against Bangladesh after opting to bat first at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium. Having lost the opening Test, the visitors were looking to bounce back in the series, but Bangladesh’s fast bowlers made life difficult for them right from the start. Taskin Ahmed struck early, bowling a brilliant delivery to dismiss Brandon King in the fifth over. The pacer later removed Kavem Hodge, and Hasan Mahmud also struck, leaving West Indies in serious trouble.
Taskin Ahmed cleans up Brandon King with a superb inswinger
Taskin was impressive with the new ball and troubled the West Indies batters by moving it both ways. In the 4.1st over, he bowled a full delivery around off that swung sharply back into King. The right-handed batter attempted to flick it across the line but was late in bringing his bat down.
With his feet barely moving, King left a gap between his bat and pad, allowing the ball to sneak through and crash into the middle and leg stumps. King departed for just 9 off 18 deliveries, having hit two boundaries. It was an excellent piece of fast bowling from Taskin, who used the movement on offer to beat the opener’s defence.

Bangladesh’s fast bowlers put West Indies under early pressure
Taskin continued his impressive start by dismissing Hodge, while Mahmud got rid of Joshua Da Silva for 12. The visitors were reduced to 27/3 within the first nine overs, with Bangladesh’s pace attack making the most of the early movement. West Indies needed a partnership to prevent the innings from slipping further, and Amir Jangoo found an able partner in debutant Kevin Wickham.
The two batters showed patience against the quicks and negotiated the introduction of spin without taking unnecessary risks. Their unbeaten 59-run stand helped West Indies recover from the early collapse. At lunch on Day 1, the visitors were 86/3 after 26 overs, with Jangoo batting on 32 and Wickham unbeaten on 27.
