Brad Haddin names the key players of England and India for the Test series

As the cricketing world gears up for the highly anticipated five-match Test series between England and India, all eyes are on the new leaders steering their respective ships. With Ben Stokes leading England and Shubman Gill taking charge of a Kohli-Rohit-less India, the upcoming series promises a clash not just of cricketing styles but of bold, fearless leadership. The series begins on June 20, and with both teams possessing immense depth, it’s shaping up to be one of the most intriguing bilateral contests in recent years.

Brad Haddin highlights key players for both teams

Former Australia wicketkeeper Brad Haddin shared his thoughts on the players who could decide the fate of the series. Speaking on the WillowTalk Podcast, Haddin stressed the importance of India’s top order, particularly openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul.

“Jaiswal and KL Rahul — with the way English conditions will be, they need to start well with the bat. If they don’t, the very talented but inexperienced Indian middle order might be exposed too early, and that could lead to trouble,” Haddin explained.

Turning his attention to England, Haddin picked Zak Crawley as a player under pressure to perform, especially ahead of a potential Ashes tour.

“England are pretty settled with their batting order, but Crawley — who scored a hundred in the last Test — faces an acid test against top-class bowling. There’s a lot of pressure on him, and Ben Duckett too,” he added.

Balanced squads set the stage for an epic series

Despite the absence of stalwarts Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, India arrive with a formidable squad. Young captain Gill will rely on the explosive potential of Jaiswal, the stability of Rahul, and the world-class bowling attack led by Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj. All-round strength comes in the form of Ravindra Jadeja, who will be vital on surfaces offering turn and bounce.

On the English side, the core remains intact with veterans like Joe Root and Stokes, backed by the elegant Ollie Pope and the returning Chris Woakes. Brydon Carse adds pace and aggression to their bowling arsenal, and their home advantage could be decisive. With evenly matched squads and a rich backdrop of history, the series is expected to be fiercely contested.
