Teenage sensations are making headlines across multiple sports, and Formula One driver Arvid Lindblad believes that is no coincidence. The Racing Bulls rookie, who has Indian roots, reflected on the growing trend of young athletes reaching the highest level much earlier than previous generations during his appearance on the broadcast of the first ODI between England and India at Edgbaston.

Lindblad, who was at the venue supporting England, also spoke warmly about his connection with India, his visit to Mumbai last year and his experience of playing cricket with children at the iconic Azad Maidan. The 18-year-old then shared his views on why teenage stars are becoming increasingly common across world sport, with Indian cricket prodigy Vaibhav Suryavanshi featuring prominently in the discussion.

Speaking to Sky Sports during the England-India ODI, Lindblad was asked why motorsport has witnessed an increasing number of teenage drivers competing at the highest level. Instead of limiting his answer to Formula One, the British driver pointed to similar trends across different sports.

He highlighted the emergence of young stars such as Formula One rookie Kimi Antonelli, football sensation Lamine Yamal and India’s teenage batting prodigy Suryavanshi, suggesting that elite athletes are now reaching the top at younger ages because of improvements in modern sporting environments.

“I think this is happening in all sports. The technology is improving around it. We get better information from an earlier age, and that is why there are really good youngsters who are doing really well. This happens in all sports, even in cricket, with Vaibhav doing really well. He is so young. I think this is just the nature of sport,” Lindblad said.

The comparison comes after a remarkable few months for Vaibhav. The 15-year-old enjoyed a sensational IPL 2026 campaign before earning his India debut, becoming the country’s youngest-ever international cricketer and breaking Sachin Tendulkar’s long-standing record.

Lindblad opens up on his Indian roots and Formula One journey

During the interaction, Lindblad also spoke about his close connection with India through his maternal grandparents, revealing that he remains deeply attached to his Indian heritage. The Racing Bulls driver also reflected on achieving his lifelong dream of racing in Formula One earlier this year, admitting that the emotions of making his debut in Melbourne overwhelmed him.

“I enjoyed my time in Mumbai playing cricket with the kids at Azad Maidan. It was a wonderful experience. My Nana and Nani are Punjabi. I am very connected to my Indian roots and love Indian food, particularly that cooked by my Nani.”

Lindblad further recalled how special it felt to compete at Silverstone as a Formula One driver for the first time, having first visited the iconic circuit as a five-year-old with his father. During the British Grand Prix weekend, he was also seen sharing a light-hearted moment with India captain Shubman Gill, with both sporting stars bonding over their Punjabi family roots.
