Marcus Stoinis and Mohammed Shami

In a jaw-dropping display of late-innings power-hitting, Marcus Stoinis hammered four consecutive sixes off Mohammed Shami in the final over to propel Punjab Kings to a massive 245/6 in their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Shami, one of IPL’s most experienced pacers, was left reeling after conceding 24 runs in his last four deliveries, finishing with an expensive spell of 75 runs in four overs the second-most expensive in IPL history. Stoinis remained unbeaten on 34 off just 11 balls, smacking 1 four and 4 sixes, all coming in rapid succession and turning a solid total into a monstrous one.

Marcus Stoinis’ destructive blitz: Four sixes against Mohammed Shami

The carnage began on the third ball of the 20th over when Shami bowled a length delivery on leg stump. Stoinis got underneath it easily and lofted it effortlessly over wide long-on for a 93-metre six, a sign of things to come. On the very next delivery, Shami erred again, offering a low full toss drifting into leg stump. Stoinis cleared his front leg and muscled it over deep midwicket, showing immense power and timing. The third six was even more devastating as Shami dropped his length shorter, but the ball sat up nicely. Stoinis seized the moment, pulled with full force, and sent it 96 metres into the night sky over deep midwicket. Shami tried to go fuller again on the fourth delivery, a low full toss on leg stump, but Stoinis was in beast mode now. He whipped it with strong wrists and a powerful swing over deep square leg, bringing up four sixes in a row and turning the final over into a nightmare.

Punjab Kings dominate with explosive batting show against SRH

PBKS delivered one of their most dominant batting displays of the season, posting a mammoth 245/6 after electing to bat first in Hyderabad. The foundation was set by a blazing 66-run opening stand between debutant Priyansh Arya, who smashed 36 off just 13 balls, and Prabhsimran Singh, who followed up with a rapid 42. The real fireworks, however, came from captain Shreyas Iyer, whose blistering 82 off 36 balls, laced with six fours and six sixes, gave the innings its backbone. Contributions from Nehal Wadhera and a sensational finishing burst by Stoinis, who hammered 34 not out off just 11 balls including four consecutive sixes off Shami, took the total to stratospheric heights. Shami endured a night to forget with the second-most expensive spell in IPL history. Harshal Patel was the only bright spot with the ball, picking 4/42.
