The 48th match of the IPL 2026 delivered a masterclass in clinical cricket as the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) secured a dominant 8-wicket victory over the Delhi Capitals (DC) on Tuesday. Playing in front of a packed house at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, the Capitals struggled to find momentum against a disciplined CSK bowling attack, ultimately posting a sub-par total of 155/7. Despite some late-innings resistance from Tristan Stubbs and Sameer Rizvi, the target proved far too low for a star-studded Chennai batting lineup led by an effortless Sanju Samson.
KL Rahul’s electric stumping cuts short Urvil Patel’s stay in DC vs CSK game
While the result favoured the men in yellow, the defensive highlight of the evening belonged to Delhi’s captain and wicketkeeper, KL Rahul. During the seventh over of the CSK chase, the game witnessed a moment of pure wicketkeeping magic that briefly sparked hopes of a DC comeback.
Facing Axar Patel, the dangerous Urvil Patel was looking to accelerate the run rate, having already smashed two towering sixes in his 9-ball cameo. On the third delivery of the over (6.3), Urvil attempted to dance down the track to loft Axar down the ground. However, the veteran left-arm spinner outsmarted the young batter by shortening his length and zipping the ball through at a quicker pace.
The ball gripped and spun just enough to beat the outside edge. Rahul, showing reflexes that defied the humid Delhi heat, collected the ball cleanly and whipped the bails off in a singular, fluid motion. While Urvil desperately tried to slide his back foot back into the crease, the replay showed his toe was inches in the air when the bails were dislodged. The lightening stumping sent Urvil back for 17, but it remained one of the few bright spots for the home side.

The chase was never truly in doubt for the Chennai Super Kings. Despite the early loss of captain Ruturaj Gaikwad (6) to Lungi Ngidi and the stumping of Urvil, Samson took total control of the proceedings. Samson played a flawless knock of 87 off 52 balls, laced with 7 fours and 6 maximums, operating at a strike rate of 167.30. He was ably supported by Kartik Sharma (41 off 31), as the duo stitched together an unbeaten 114-run partnership to see CSK home with 15 balls to spare.
Earlier in the evening, Delhi’s innings failed to launch. Pathum Nissanka (19) and KL Rahul (12) were dismissed within the powerplay, leaving the middle order exposed. CSK’s Noor Ahmad was the pick of the bowlers, strangling the DC batters with figures of 2/22 across his three overs. Stubbs (38) and the Impact Player Rizvi (40*) managed to drag the total to 155, but the bowling figures of Mitchell Starc (0/30) and Kuldeep Yadav (0/34) reflected DC’s inability to penetrate the CSK batting guard.
With this win, CSK moves comfortably up the table, while Delhi Capitals face a steep uphill battle to keep their playoff hopes alive in the 2026 campaign.
