Mohammad Saifuddin delivers a match-winning all-round performance in Bangladesh's emphatic victory over Zimbabwe

An absolute masterclass in all-round cricket saw Bangladesh seal an emphatic 34-run victory over Zimbabwe in the 2nd T20I at Bulawayo. The highly anticipated ZIM vs BAN clash on July 17, 2026, delivered high-octane drama from start to finish. Fuelled by explosive top-order batting, an extraordinary late-innings blitz, and a clinical bowling display, the visitors successfully levelled or extended their dominance in the series, leaving the hosts searching for answers in front of their home crowd.

Mohammad Saifuddin’s cameo takes Bangladesh to a formidable score

Opting to bat first, Bangladesh fly out of the blocks courtesy of an elegant opening partnership between Saif Hassan and Tanzid Hasan. The duo dismantled the Zimbabwean bowling attack, stringing together a massive 120-run opening stand. Tanzid paced his innings beautifully to score a brilliant 58 off 44 deliveries, featuring six boundaries and two towering sixes. At the other end, Saif Hassan anchored the innings perfectly, top-scoring with a composed 55 off 45 balls.

However, cricket is a game of shifting momentums. The hosts triggered a dramatic collapse, courtesy of tight bowling from Richard Ngarava (2/23) and Brad Evans. Bangladesh slumped from a commanding 120 without loss to a precarious 141/5 in a space of just 2.1 overs. Captain Towhid Hridoy and the middle order departed cheaply, threatening to waste the brilliant platform set by the openers.

Enter Mohammad Saifuddin. The lower-order powerhouse turned the tide back in Bangladesh’s favour with an unforgettable visual display of power-hitting. Saifuddin played a jaw-dropping cameo, blasting an unbeaten 31 runs off just 10 deliveries. Operating at an astonishing strike rate of 310.00, he smashed 4 fours and 3 massive sixes. Partnering with Yasir Ali (22* off 12), Saifuddin single-handedly propelled Bangladesh to a formidable total of 186/5 in their allotted 20 overs, turning a potential collapse into a position of absolute strength.

Rishad Hossain derails Zimbabwe’s chase with a four-wicket haul

Chasing a demanding target of 187, Zimbabwe’s innings began in disastrous fashion. Bangladesh’s spin-bowling spearhead Mahedi Hasan ripped through the top order early on, finishing with stellar figures of 3/24. Zimbabwe found themselves reeling at 21/3 within the first three overs, losing key wickets like Tadiwanashe Marumani and Dion Myers almost instantly.

Zimbabwean captain Sikandar Raza attempted a counter-attack, scoring a quickfire 28 off 12 balls, while Ryan Burl contributed a fighting 29 off 19 deliveries. Just as the hosts threatened to stitch together a dangerous partnership, leg-spinner Rishad Hossain stepped up to dismantle the remaining resistance.

Rishad turned the match into a personal showcase of subtle variations and deadly accuracy. He completely derailed Zimbabwe’s chase by picking up a phenomenal four-wicket haul, finishing with figures of 4/26 in 3.4 overs. Rishad broke the back of the middle order, taking the crucial wicket of Raza and cleaning up the tail by dismissing Blessing Muzarabani to wrap up the match. Despite a late cameo of 25 from Brad Evans, Zimbabwe were bundled out for 152 in 19.4 overs. Bangladesh clinical 34-run triumph was deservedly capped off with Saifuddin being named Player of the Match for his outstanding all-round heroics.
