T20 cricket has produced a long list of explosive batters who can change the course of a game within a few overs. With several established stars and emerging players making an impact across different leagues and international cricket, picking the best batter in the format is no easy task. New Zealand opening batter Finn Allen recently faced that question and named an Indian star as his preferred choice.

Finn Allen picks the best T20 batter

During an exclusive chat with Hindustan Times, Allen was asked to name the best batter in T20 cricket at the moment. The New Zealand opener admitted that the current generation has several players performing at a high level, making it difficult to select just one name.

Allen mentioned several batters who have impressed him, including New Zealand teammate Tim Seifert and Indian stars Ishan Kishan and Abhishek Sharma. However, when pushed to pick one player, the 25-year-old eventually settled on Kishan.

“There are so many guys who are playing such good cricket at the moment. You’ve got guys like Tim Seifert and things like that who have been whacking it everywhere they’ve been going lately. Again, Ishan, Kishan, and Abhishek Sharma are always scoring runs and smacking it. So, I mean, it’s pretty hard to just pick one. I think Kishan would be up there at the moment,” Allen said.

Kishan’s recent form and standing in T20 cricket clearly influenced Allen’s choice. The left-hander has established himself as an aggressive batter capable of taking on bowling attacks from the outset. Allen’s choice also comes at a time when Kishan occupies the top position in the T20I batting rankings. That provides additional context to the New Zealand batter’s assessment, particularly when the question was about the best player at the present time.

No place for Jos Buttler

While Allen’s selection of Kishan is understandable given the batter’s current position, the absence of Jos Buttler from his list is certainly notable. Buttler has built a remarkable reputation in the shortest format over several years. His ability to score rapidly, dominate both pace and spin, and produce match-winning innings across different T20 competitions has made him one of the most destructive batters in the history of the format.

The England white-ball star has also continued to strengthen his standing in overall T20 cricket. He recently became the all-time leading run-scorer in the format, surpassing Kieron Pollard’s long-standing record. That achievement underlines the scale of Buttler’s contribution to T20 cricket. His consistency and longevity across international cricket and franchise leagues have made him one of the defining batters of the format.
