Australia announce ODI and T20I squads for England series

Australia have announced their ODI and T20I squads for the upcoming white-ball series against England, with several familiar faces returning to the national setup and promising young players earning opportunities. The series, featuring three ODIs and five T20Is, will provide Australia with an opportunity to assess their limited-overs options while managing the workloads of key players ahead of a demanding international schedule.

Mahli Beardman has earned a recall following his impressive performances for Australia A during their recent tour of India. Meanwhile, Jake Fraser-McGurk is back in the T20I setup after more than a year, while Spencer Johnson, Jack Edwards and Liam Scott have also secured places in the ODI squad.

Beardman is among the notable inclusions in Australia’s 14-member ODI squad for the England series. The 21-year-old fast bowler last represented the senior national side in a solitary ODI in January 2026 and is yet to make his international debut in T20 cricket.

His performances during Australia A’s tour of India have helped him return to the national conversation, giving him another opportunity to establish himself at the highest level.

Johnson, Edwards and Scott are the other players recalled to the ODI setup. Their inclusion provides Australia with additional options as the selectors prepare for the three-match series. Mitchell Marsh will continue to captain the side, which also features established names such as Travis Head, Cameron Green, Alex Carey, Josh Inglis and Adam Zampa.

The T20I squad has also witnessed some interesting changes, with Fraser-McGurk receiving another opportunity to represent Australia. The explosive batter last featured for the national team in July 2025 and will be keen to make an impression during the five-match series.

Edwards has also been recalled to the shortest-format squad, while Lachlan Shaw has received his maiden international call-up. Shaw’s performances for Australia A in India and his contributions in the Big Bash League have helped him earn recognition from the selectors.

Nathan Ellis has been included despite missing the ODI series. The fast bowler is currently recovering from a side strain but remains part of Australia’s plans for the T20Is.

Senior pacers rested ahead of busy Test schedule

Workload management has played an important role in Australia’s selection decisions. Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood have not been considered for the England white-ball series after their recent three-Test tour of South Africa.

The experienced pace trio will undergo a short de-loading period before beginning preparations for an extensive Test schedule involving 10 consecutive matches at home and in India.

Ellis’ absence from the ODI squad is also injury-related, with his recovery from a side strain limiting his availability. Additionally, Australia will carefully manage the involvement of Head, Renshaw, Inglis, Connolly and Green throughout the T20I series. Their workloads will be monitored following lengthy tours of Zimbabwe and South Africa, with another demanding assignment against New Zealand approaching before the five-Test tour of India.
