India have produced some remarkable batting performances while chasing in T20I cricket, with their biggest stars repeatedly showing the ability to handle pressure and turn difficult targets into comfortable victories. The latest addition to that list is Shreyas Iyer, whose unbeaten 102 against West Indies in Lucknow has put him among India’s top five individual century scores in a successful T20I chase.
Iyer’s knock came during the first T20I of India’s five-match series against West Indies on October 6, 2026. Chasing 172, India lost Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson early, but Iyer took control of the innings and remained unbeaten as India reached the target in only 14.4 overs.
Here is a closer look at the top five centuries for India in a T20I run chase:
1. Suryakumar Yadav – 117 vs England, Trent Bridge, 2022

At the top of the list is Suryakumar Yadav, who produced one of the greatest T20I innings by an Indian batter during India’s chase against England at Trent Bridge in 2022.
Suryakumar smashed 117 runs, displaying the extraordinary range of strokes that has become synonymous with his batting. He attacked the English bowlers from virtually every angle and kept India in contention during a demanding chase.
Although India eventually fell short, his century remains India’s highest individual score in a T20I innings while chasing. The knock featured 14 fours and 6 sixes and came at a strike rate above 200.
It was another example of SKY’s ability to turn a seemingly difficult situation into a contest through fearless strokeplay.
2. KL Rahul – 110 not out vs West Indies, Lauderhill, 2016
KL Rahul occupies the second position with his unbeaten 110 against West Indies in Lauderhill in 2016.
Rahul’s innings was a masterclass in controlled aggression. He combined textbook cricketing shots with the ability to clear the boundary whenever the opportunity presented itself.
His unbeaten century contained 12 fours and 5 sixes, while his strike rate of more than 215 underlined just how quickly he scored.
However, Rahul’s performance came in an unsuccessful chase, making it one of the most unmemorable T20I innings of his career. Chasing the Windies total of 245/6, India fell just one run short as they finished on 244/4 in their allotted 20 overs
3. Shreyas Iyer – 102 not out vs West Indies, Lucknow, 2026
The newest entry on this list is Shreyas Iyer, who produced a captain’s innings in India’s 2026 T20I opener against West Indies.
India were 35/2 after four overs while chasing 172, leaving the hosts in need of a substantial partnership. Iyer responded by taking responsibility for the chase and accelerating as the innings progressed.
He finished unbeaten on 102 from 43 balls, hitting 10 fours and s6 sixes. His century arrived in just 42 balls, before he completed the chase alongside Ishan Kishan.

The knock was particularly significant because it was Iyer’s maiden T20I century. It also came immediately after he led India to an Asian Games gold medal, making his return to international action even more impressive.
Most importantly, Iyer’s innings was not merely about personal statistics. It took India from a difficult position to a comprehensive eight-wicket victory with 32 balls remaining.

4. KL Rahul – 101 not out vs England, Old Trafford, 2018
Rahul appears twice in the top five, with his second entry coming from his 101 not out against England in Manchester in 2018.
The right-hander once again demonstrated his ability to combine timing with power. Rahul reached his century from just 54 deliveries and struck 10 fours and five sixes.
What makes the innings especially memorable is the manner in which he controlled the chase. Rather than allowing the required run rate to dictate the tempo, Rahul dictated terms to the English attack.
His unbeaten 101 remains one of the finest examples of Rahul’s ability to produce a match-winning innings at the top of the order.
5. Rohit Sharma – 100 not out vs England, Bristol, 2018

Former India captain Rohit Sharma completes the list with his unbeaten 100 against England in Bristol in 2018.
Rohit’s century came from only 56 balls and included 11 fours and five sixes. His trademark timing was on full display as he dismantled the English bowling attack during the successful chase.
The innings highlighted why Rohit became one of the most destructive opening batters in T20I cricket. He could absorb pressure early before shifting gears dramatically once set.
His unbeaten century ensured India completed the chase (201/3) comfortably and added another memorable chapter to his long list of T20I achievements.
