Ali Khan bowls bizarre 5-wide as ball flies for six in Canada Super60 semi-final

The Canada Super60 semi-final between Toronto Sixers and Mississauga Masters produced a bizarre moment when Ali Khan’s delivery appeared to sail over the boundary for a six. The unusual incident came during Toronto’s innings at BC Place in Vancouver, with Kieron Pollard at the crease.

Khan bowled a high bouncer that went over Pollard and continued all the way into the stands. While the delivery initially looked like it had resulted in a maximum, the umpire signalled a wide and awarded five runs to Toronto Sixers, leaving the commentators and fans puzzled by the decision.

Ali Khan’s bouncer flies into the stands but is called 5 wide

The incident occurred in the ninth over of Toronto Sixers’ innings, with Pollard taking guard. Khan’s bouncer went well over the batter’s head and evaded the wicketkeeper before reaching the boundary without Pollard making any contact with it. The umpire immediately called the delivery a wide and awarded five runs to Toronto.

The decision meant that despite the ball travelling directly into the stands, it did not count as a six. The unusual call quickly became one of the major talking points of the semi-final, particularly because the ball had cleared the boundary on the full.

The West Indies all-rounder smashed 40 off just 16 deliveries, hitting three fours and four sixes, while Andries Gous finished unbeaten on 33 off 11 balls at a strike rate of 300.

Khan took two wickets for Mississauga Masters but conceded 43 runs from his two overs. Mississauga Masters started their chase strongly, with Alex Lees smashing 39 off 11 balls and George Munsey adding 23 off 11. However, Imad dismissed both openers and finished with 2/19 as Toronto Sixers regained control. The Masters eventually finished on 121/7, giving Toronto Sixers a nine-run victory and a place in the final.
