The Indian all-rounder, known for her all-round skillset, made her biggest impact on the field with a direct hit run-out that dismissed Sri Lanka’s opener Hasini Perera, leaving the hosts rattled early in their chase.

The turning point came in the eighth over of the second innings. With India having posted a strong total of 275/9, Sri Lanka began their chase cautiously. On the first ball of the over bowled by Sneh Rana, Hasini attempted a paddle sweep and rushed for a second run. However, Deepti, stationed at short fine leg, sprinted in and released the ball in one swift motion—hitting the stumps directly at the non-striker’s end.
Perera’s dive couldn’t save her as replays confirmed she was well short of her ground. The run-out came just when Sri Lanka were settling in, and the Indian camp erupted in celebration. Deepti’s razor-sharp throw not only provided India with the breakthrough but also energized the entire fielding unit.

India’s innings built on partnerships and a late surge
Earlier in the match, India showcased a composed batting performance. Despite a few early setbacks, the middle-order batters stitched together crucial partnerships. The standout knock came from Richa Ghosh, who hammered 58 off 48 deliveries, providing a much-needed boost in the latter part of the innings. Her aggressive intent ensured India went past the 270-mark, a total that put scoreboard pressure on the hosts.
In the bowling department, Chamari Athapaththu was Sri Lanka’s most effective weapon. The skipper led from the front, taking 3 wickets for 43 runs, and was well supported by Sugandika Kumari, who also returned figures of 3/44.
