Litton Das takes a sharp catch to dismiss Roston Chase

The second Test between Bangladesh and West Indies at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium has produced an exciting contest, with the hosts fighting back strongly on Day 2 after the visitors had finished the opening day in a commanding position. West Indies resumed their first innings at 235/4, hoping to build a substantial total and put Bangladesh under pressure. However, the home side’s bowling attack had other plans, with Hasan Mahmud leading the charge with the second new ball. Among the standout moments of the morning session was a brilliant catch from Bangladesh wicketkeeper Litton Das to send West Indies captain Roston Chase back to the pavilion without scoring.

The dismissal of Chase was one of the most significant moments of the morning session, highlighting both Mahmud’s bowling quality and Litton’s sharp reflexes behind the stumps.

Having already broken the resistance of the West Indies middle order, Mahmud produced another excellent delivery to trouble the visiting captain. The right-arm pacer bowled a good-length delivery outside the off stump, which pitched and moved back sharply after hitting the surface. The ball also generated additional bounce, making it difficult for Chase to negotiate.

The West Indies captain moved forward in an attempt to defend the delivery but could only manage a thick inside edge. The ball travelled behind the stumps, where Litton reacted quickly and completed an excellent catch. Catching an inside edge is never straightforward for a wicketkeeper, as the ball can change direction unexpectedly and arrive at an awkward angle. However, Litton maintained his concentration and held on to the opportunity.

The dismissal of Chase was part of a remarkable spell from Mahmud, who played a crucial role in restricting the visitors after they had resumed at 235/4. Mahmud first ended the dangerous fifth-wicket partnership between Amir Jangoo and his batting partner. The West Indies centurion, who had scored 133, was bowled by the Bangladesh pacer, bringing an end to a valuable 106-run stand.

He followed that breakthrough by dismissing Chase, leaving the visitors struggling to maintain their momentum. Mahmud continued to trouble the West Indies batting lineup and eventually completed an impressive five-wicket haul, finishing with figures of 5/86. His performance proved particularly important after the visitors had looked comfortable on the opening day.

Despite losing wickets at regular intervals, West Indies managed to add valuable runs through Justin Greaves, who crossed the half-century mark with a score of 51. The lower order also provided some resistance, with Shamar Joseph unbeaten on 16 and Jomel Warrican on nine at the lunch interval. West Indies reached 322/8 at Lunch on Day 2, with Bangladesh making significant progress through Mahmud’s five-wicket haul.
