A moment of sheer brilliance and rare cricketing fortune lit up the Maharashtra Premier League (MPL) 2025, as Puneri Bappa wicketkeeper Suraj Shinde pulled off an extraordinary run out, hitting both sets of stumps with a single throw—a feat seldom witnessed in the sport’s long history.

The incident took place during the sixth match of the tournament at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune, where Puneri Bappa faced Raigad Royals. Having set a daunting target of 203, thanks in part to Shinde’s own explosive 40 off 12 balls, Puneri Bappa were riding high as the Royals began their chase.
On the fifth ball of the first over, Raigad opener Siddesh Veer nudged the ball towards the leg side and called for a risky single. Sensing an opportunity, Shinde pounced on the ball behind the stumps and fired a direct throw at the striker’s end. Veer, alert to the danger, scrambled back into his crease just as the ball crashed into the stumps.
But the drama was only beginning.
Instead of coming to rest, the ball ricocheted off the striker’s stumps and sped down the pitch towards the non-striker’s end. There, Harsh Mogaveera, caught ball-watching and outside his crease, could only watch in disbelief as the ball clattered into the non-striker’s stumps. The umpire quickly signalled him out for a golden duck, leaving players and spectators stunned by the sequence of events.
“You don’t see this every day. That’s a once-in-a-career run out!” exclaimed a commentator, capturing the amazement of fans worldwide.

The rulebook confirms the dismissal
The run out instantly went viral, with fans and pundits hailing it as one of the most bizarre and skillful dismissals in recent memory. Cricket’s laws, specifically MCC Law 38.4, confirm the legitimacy of such a dismissal: if the wicket is broken at both ends in one play, the batter at the end where the wicket is broken is adjudged out—provided the ball is still live, as it was in this case.
This rare dismissal proved pivotal. Raigad Royals, rattled by the early blow and the manner of Mogaveera’s exit, never recovered their composure. They were eventually bowled out for just 103, handing Puneri Bappa a resounding 99-run victory.
