Ravindra Jadeja sword celebration in 2nd Test

Shubman Gill and Ravindra Jadeja put on a batting masterclass on Day 2 of the second Test at Edgbaston, helping India recover from a precarious position to take firm control of the match. Coming together at 211/5, the pair built a resilient unbeaten stand of over 150 runs, frustrating the English bowlers and pushing India’s total past the 370-run mark. While Gill showcased his class with a magnificent century, Jadeja provided solidity and flair—capping his fifty with his trademark sword celebration.

Jadeja brought up his 23rd Test half-century—his fourth on English soil—in the 89th over of the innings. A well-placed single off Chris Woakes to deep square leg sealed the landmark, prompting the all-rounder to unsheath his imaginary sword in his trademark celebration. The flourish of the bat, symbolizing his warrior-like spirit, was met with loud cheers from the Indian supporters at Edgbaston.

The moment captured the essence of Jadeja’s gritty character—stepping up when it mattered most. The video of his celebration quickly went viral on social media, with fans and former cricketers alike praising not just the gesture, but the resilience and determination it symbolized in testing conditions.

Jadeja and Shubman Gill put India in command

Jadeja’s batting brilliance, alongside skipper Gill’s masterclass, took India to a commanding score during the first session on Day 2. The duo added over 150 runs for the sixth wicket, building a strong foundation for the visitors and frustrating the English attack that had dominated in the series opener.

Their partnership provided a much-needed lift for India after a disappointing start to the series, where England had successfully chased down 371 in Leeds to go 1-0 up. Though, Jadeja couldn’t reach the three-figures as a bouncer from Josh Tounge ended his stay at 89 runs.

With momentum shifting at Edgbaston, India will look to push on and post a mammoth total. England, meanwhile, will aim for a quick breakthrough on Day 2 to claw their way back into the contest.
