The Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2027 auction brought plenty of activity as the five franchises looked to complete their squads for the upcoming season. Held in Kochi on Wednesday, October 28, the mini-auction gave teams an opportunity to add depth, strengthen their bowling options and bring in fresh Indian talent.

With 27 squad places initially available, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Mumbai Indians (MI), Delhi Capitals (DC), Gujarat Giants (GG) and UP Warriorz (UPW) entered the auction with different budgets and requirements. Several experienced international cricketers and domestic players found new teams, while franchises also focused on affordable additions to round out their squads.

Sophie Molineux becomes a key signing for UP Warriorz

Australian all-rounder Sophie Molineux was among the notable names to attract bidding interest. UP Warriorz secured her services for ₹1.10 crore after competition for the player, whose experience with both bat and ball could provide balance to their lineup.

The signing also reflects UP Warriorz’s scope to make changes, as they entered the auction with the largest remaining purse among the five franchises.

Delhi Capitals and Gujarat Giants strengthen their squads

Delhi Capitals won the bidding for Kiran Navgire at ₹75 lakh, making her one of the most expensive players in the reported sales. Gujarat Giants added G. Kamalini for ₹40 lakh and signed Ireland all-rounder Orla Prendergast for ₹30 lakh.

These purchases gave the franchises further options as they worked to finalise their combinations for the 2027 WPL season.

Mumbai Indians target affordable additions

Mumbai Indians made several purchases at the ₹10 lakh mark, including Saanika Chalke, Bharti Rawal, Latika Inamdar and Disha Kasat. With a limited remaining purse and six slots to fill before the auction, cost-effective signings were particularly important for the franchise.

Meanwhile, defending champions RCB added South Africa all-rounder Chloe Tryon for ₹30 lakh and Australia’s veteran spinner Jess Jonassen for ₹40 lakh, bringing experienced players into their squad.
