Zimbabwe Women are set for a busy period at home as they prepare to host West Indies Women for a six-match multi-format series. The tour will feature three ODIs followed by three T20Is, with the two formats being played at different venues in Harare. The ODI series will be part of the ICC Women’s Championship and will begin on September 24. The teams will then switch to the shortest format in October, with the three T20Is scheduled to take place at the Takashinga Cricket Club.
The series will mark the first bilateral meetings between Zimbabwe and West Indies Women across both formats, giving the hosts an important opportunity to test themselves against an established international side. West Indies will arrive in Zimbabwe after a 3-0 ODI series sweep against Ireland.
ODI series to begin at Harare Sports Club
The tour will begin with a three-match ODI series at the Harare Sports Club. The opening game is scheduled for September 24, followed by the second ODI on September 27 and the final match on September 30. The matches will carry added significance for Zimbabwe as they form part of the ICC Women’s Championship. Zimbabwe are currently 10th in the standings after losing all six of their matches in the current cycle, while West Indies sit fifth with four wins from nine games.
The hosts will therefore have a challenging assignment against a West Indies side that has already collected important points in the Championship. The three ODIs will also give Zimbabwe another chance to gain experience against higher-ranked opposition.
T20I series to follow in October
After the ODI series, Zimbabwe and West Indies will turn their attention to T20I cricket. The three-match series will begin on October 3, with the second game scheduled for October 5 and the final T20I on October 7. All three matches will be played at the Takashinga Cricket Club, bringing the tour to a close.
For Zimbabwe, the series will provide another opportunity to build experience in the shortest format while continuing their development against quality international opposition. The hosts are currently involved in a five-match T20I series against South Africa and trail 0-4 heading into the final match. Zimbabwe will therefore have limited time between the end of that series and the arrival of West Indies.
