Farooqi pushes Markram

The Champions Trophy 2025 clash between Afghanistan and South Africa ended in a convincing win for the Proteas. However, the situation on the pitch has been far from ideal between the two sides. This was evident through an on-field incident between Fazalhaq Farooqi and Aiden Markram as South Africa were headed towards a massive total.

Aiden Markram pushed aside by Fazalhaq Farooqi

The shocking event between the two players occurred during the last over of the South African innings. The team had already crossed the 300-mark and were now looking to add additional runs to the total to exert further pressure on the Afghans.

After the 1st delivery of the over which Markram cleared on the off-side for a single, Farooqi’s frustration became visible while he was returning back to the bowling end as he pushed Markram with both his hands who was now on the non-striker’s end.

After the push, Markram too couldn’t help but notice Farooqi’s frustration and stared at Afghanistan’s star pacer. He also poked his bat implying that even he could not understand the reason behind this hostile gesture from Farooqi. Markram had already scored his half-century by the time the incident took place. Farooqi was further frustrated as he gave away 13 more runs in the final 4 balls of the South African innings.

South Africa dominated Afghanistan in Group B opener

The first clash of the Group B of the Champions Trophy 2025 resulted in a comfortable win for the South African side. Group B features Australia and England along with these two teams and with this win, the Proteas took the early momentum in the tournament to clinch the top-spot in the group early on.

After winning the toss and electing to bat first, the Proteas managed to put together a total of 315 runs in their 50 overs due to a brilliant century from Ryan Rickelton and notable knocks from skipper Temba Bavuma, Rassie van der Dussen, and Markram. In response, the Afghanistan batters crashed down in front of an incoming onslaught from South African bowlers as they were bowled out for 208 runs in 43.3 overs to pave the way for a South African win by 107 runs.
