Sri Lanka Cricket (SCL), on Tuesday, announced their 16-member men’s squad for the upcoming ODI series against Bangladesh. The three-match ODI leg is set to begin from Wednesday, March 13 at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram.

Pathum Nissanka returns

Star young opener Pathum Nissanka has made a significant comeback to the Sri Lanka outfit. His return marks a notable moment for Sri Lanka Cricket, as Nissanka was sidelined from the recently-concluded T20I series against Bangladesh due to a hamstring injury sustained during the home series against Afghanistan. Avishka Fernando, who replaced Nissanka in the T20I squad, has managed to retain his place for the ODIs.

Leadership composition

Wicketkeeper-batter Kusal Mendis will continue to lead the Islanders in the 50-overs format. Mendis will receive support from Charith Asalanka, who will serve as the vice-captain for the series. Asalanka recently showcased his leadership skills by leading Sri Lanka in the first two T20Is, stepping in for regular T20 skipper Wanindu Hasaranga, who was serving a suspension.

Familiar faces in the outfit

The Sri Lankan squad for the Bangladesh ODIs will feature some familiar faces, including Sadeera Samarawickrama, Kamindu Mendis, Hasaranga, Maheesh Theekshana, Dunith Wellalage, Akila Dananjaya, Chamika Karunaratne, Dilshan Madushanka, Pramod Madushan, and Lahiru Kumara.
