In the thrilling clash at the Over 40s Global Cup, Pakistan and the West Indies find themselves locked in a fierce battle for supremacy. Both teams have been riding high on a wave of success, with resounding victories in their previous encounters. As it stands, they sit perched atop the table, each boasting an impressive tally of 2 points from their respective matches in the early rounds. However, the only scenario that could potentially tip the scales in favour of one of these cricketing powerhouses is if either of them falters in a crucial fixture slated just before their highly anticipated showdown on the 24th of September.

In a scintillating display of batting prowess, West Indies skipper Narsingh Deonarine showcased his rich vein of form by crafting a sublime century. This masterful innings followed his earlier half-century heroics against UAE, propelling his team to a commanding total of 280 for seven within the allotted 45 overs. Deonarine’s innings of 100, a true testament to his skill, featured a majestic six and a breathtaking array of 11 fours, all coming off a mere 98 deliveries.

He shared a pivotal 130-run partnership for the third wicket alongside the stylish Devon Clements, who dazzled the spectators with a graceful knock of 57 off 62 balls, adorned with nine boundaries. Shazan Babwah, with a composed 34 off 39 balls, and the explosive Mahendra Nagamootoo, contributing a rapid 23 off just 12 deliveries, further bolstered the West Indian charge.

Pakistan off to a great start in the Over 40s Global Cup

The inaugural MCW Over 40s Cricket Global Cup 2023 witnessed a day of cricketing brilliance as Pakistan, led by the inspired performances of Hassan Raza and Amjad Ali, took centre stage. In conditions that favoured the bowlers, two completed league matches unfolded, while two others were unfortunately washed out due to inclement weather. Pakistan left a trail of devastation in their wake as they annihilated Nepal by a staggering 248-run margin at the National Stadium.

The dynamic duo Hassan Raza and Amjad Ali unleashed an onslaught of runs, propelling their team to a monumental total of 382 for three within the stipulated 45 overs after skipper Misbah-ul-Haq elected to bat. The openers, Kashif Siddiqui and Junaid Khalil Nainitalwala laid the foundation with a sturdy first-wicket stand, amassing 75 runs in just over 11 overs. Siddiqui’s composed 66 off 59 balls and Nainitalwala’s 24 off 38 balls set the stage for Hassan and Amjad’s heroic partnership.
