In the game, Lungi Ngidi orchestrated a masterful dismissal with a sensational slower delivery that outfoxed none other than the opposition captain, Faf du Plessis.

Joburg Super Kings’ steady start and Lungi Ngidi’s intervention

Having lost the toss, the Super Kings found themselves batting first. Openers Reeza Hendricks and Du Plessis established a steady foundation, amassing 23 runs in the initial five overs. Du Plessis, with an encouraging 17 runs adorned with three boundaries, seemed poised to accelerate and set the stage for a substantial total. However, Ngidi had different plans.

In a pivotal moment during the final over of the batting powerplay, Ngidi crafted a cricketing masterpiece. Reeza Hendricks’ resilience

Despite the early setback of their captain, Hendricks showcased resilience, compiling a stellar 79 runs off 56 balls. Leus du Plooy added a crucial 30 runs in the middle overs, while Moeen Ali‘s unbeaten cameo of 23 runs off 12 balls propelled the Super Kings to a competitive 168/3 in their allotted 20 overs. Ngidi, Andile Phehlukwayo and Fabian Allen made significant contributions with the ball, scalping one wicket each for the Royals.

Paarl Royals’ composure in the chase

In response, the Royals displayed commendable composure, successfully chasing down the target with six balls to spare. Wihan Lubbe, occupying the No. 3 slot, emerged as the star performer with a dazzling innings of 57 runs off 48 balls, featuring three fours and an equal number of sixes. Dane Vilas provided pivotal support, contributing 42 runs off 26 balls.
