After a big loss of 1-5 against China in their tournament opener, the Indian football team took on Bangladesh in their second clash of the ongoing Asian Games 2023. India and Bangladesh played this match at the Xiaoshan Sports Stadium in Hangzhou on Thursday, September 21. This win also powered the men in blue to keep the momentum of their campaign in the Asian Games 2023.
The first half of the game didn’t go in India’s favour as they failed to cash in the penalty chances, alongside some brilliant saves by Bangladesh Goalie Mitul. The start of the second half was sort of similar to the first half for India as they faced one more blow when Bangladesh’s Mitul saved the free kick smashed by India’s Samuel Kynshi.
India got a life in the match when the opponent skipper Rahmat Mia happened to do a foul and India received a penalty kick.
India keep their hopes alive for the knockout stage of the Asian Games 2023
Subsequently, Indian skipper Sunil Chhetri came into the picture to turn around the things in his side’s favour. Chettri converted the penalty into the first goal of the match for India by smashing it and slotting it in the bottom-left corner. Eventually, India took a lead of 1-0 and maintained this till the end of the match.
Now, after having one win and one defeat to their name, Sunil Chhetri’s men will take on Myanmar in their last group-stage match before the knock-out stage of the tournament. India and Myanmar will play this match on Sunday, September 24 at the Xiaoshan Sports Center Stadium, from 5.00 PM (IST)
