The final 26-man England roster, selected by Gareth Southgate, includes James Maddison and Conor Gallagher for the 2017 World Cup in Qatar.

After excelling for Leicester City this season, 25-year-old Maddison has earned a timely recall to the England squad for the competition.

With six goals and four assists in 12 Premier League games this season, Maddison has earned his second England cap since his lone appearance in November of last year.

In response to Maddison’s inclusion, Southgate said: “He’s performing really well. He excels as a player. He’s a good player, as we’ve always stated. He merits the privilege. We believe he can offer us a little something extra compared to the other attacking players we have.

Despite just participating in 622 minutes of competitive football this season after returning to Chelsea, Gallagher, 22, has made the final roster.

The midfielder had a standout year with Crystal Palace last year, but he has had to settle for a supporting role at Stamford Bridge.

Despite not being match-ready, Kalvin Phillips, who made his Manchester City comeback on Wednesday after suffering a shoulder injury, is in.

Ben White has also been included to the England team, while Marc Guehi and Fikayo Tomori, two more defenders who recently shone for Crystal Palace and

Marcus Rashford of Manchester United is featured after this season’s comeback to form under Erik ten Hag. He was injured at the time and was left out of Southgate’s most recent team for the Nations League games against Germany and Italy.

Ivan Toney of Brentford, who is second in the Premier League in goals scored by English players to Three Lions captain Harry Kane, will feel like he should have been given a seat on the flight to Qatar.

Toney has scored eight goals in 13 league games for Brentford, but Southgate has chosen to pair Kane with Rashford and Callum Wilson.

James Ward-Prowse of Southampton, Joe Gomez of Liverpool, and Jarrod Bowen of West Ham were all left out.

Trent Alexander-Arnold of Liverpool, Kieran Trippier, and Kyle Walker are the other two traditional right-backs picked to the team. There is also room for White.

Due to Ben Chilwell’s hamstring injury, Trippier might have to face off against Luke Shaw for the left-back spot.

Due to a knee injury, Reece James has additionally been forced to withdraw from this competition, which is debatable for the reasons discussed in this article.

FIFA’s deadline for final World Cup squad confirmation is on Monday, so Southgate will be praying that his 26 players survive this weekend’s Premier League.

After starting Wednesday’s Carabao Cup loss at Nottingham Forest, Tottenham head coach Antonio Conte claimed Kane was “very, very weary,” so he will already be worried.

Kane started each of Tottenham’s 21 games this season in all competitions before being substituted just before the hour mark. Additionally, he participated in both of England’s September Nations League games for the entire 90 minutes.

On November 21, England will play its opening World Cup match against Iran, a rival from group B.

Next, on November 25, they take on the United States, and on November 29, they play Wales.

After narrow losses to Italy in the European Championship final last summer and near-misses at the 2018 World Cup in Russia, Southgate will be hoping to break England’s protracted trophy drought.
