With his goal versus Al-Hilal during the Arab Club Champions Cup final on Saturday, Cristiano Ronaldo broke Gerd Muller’s record for the most headed goals ever scored in the history of the sport. Al-Nassr won 2-1 with nine players and two goals from Ronaldo.
Ronaldo’s header gave him his second goal of the match, and it ended up being the decisive one. He has now surpassed the late icon Gerd Muller with 145 goals from headers.
Through Michael, Al-Hilal grabbed the advantage in the championship match during the 51st minute. But after Abdulelah Al-Amri was dismissed in the 71st minute of the Riyadh derby, Al-Nassr found themselves in real danger.
But three minutes later, Ronaldo equalised the score by scoring from close range when Sultan Al-Ghannam produced an amazing ball. Nawaf Boushal’s dismissal during the 78th minute reduced Al-Alamy to nine men, but they managed to hold on and force overtime.
After Seko Fofana’s shot rattled off the woodwork in the 98th minute, Cristiano Ronaldo once again found the back of the net with a header.
Al-Nassr won the first accolade after Ronaldo joined the team. The Portuguese superstar, who is 38 years old, had a prominent part, demonstrating his continued ability to step up in pivotal situations.
Since moving to Al-Nassr, Cristiano Ronaldo and Abdulrahman Ghareeb have developed a close bond both on and off the game. One of Ronaldo’s primary attacking teammates for the team is Ghareeb.
Ghareeb praised Ronaldo’s interactions with him for assisting in his development as a footballer. Ghareeb talked about playing with the Portugal captain following the Arab Cup of Champions championship game. He said, “Ronaldo talks to me a lot, asks me things and explains things to me, and this is the reason for my understanding with him.”
The Saudi Pro League opening versus Steven Gerrard’s Al-Ettifaq is on Monday, August 14, giving Ronaldo and company little time to enjoy their victory. Last season, Al-Nassr came in second place in the league, five points behind the eventual champions Al-Ittihad.
