Despite Curtis Jones winning Player of the Match against West Ham United, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has stated that he wants the match to go more quickly.

During the Carabao Cup quarterfinals at Anfield on Wednesday, December 20, the Reds easily defeated West Ham, 5-1. Mohamed Salah, Cody Gakpo , Dominik Szoboszlai and Curtis Jones all scored goals, while Jarrod Bowen gave the Hammers a consolation.

Jones was able to secure an impressive brace during the game. His first goal came from a sharp angle as he slotted the ball into the net. Meanwhile, his second came from a midfield move like Lionel Messi’s, where he placed the ball in the bottom-left corner.

The Liverpool FC Manager did not hold back his praise for the midfielder. He said, “I’m really happy for him because the skill set is immense, but, sometimes, he forgets to speed the game up. The second goal is what Curtis can do as well. He has this speed. He has this ability. We tell him quite frequently.”

The German International added, “Hopefully, tonight is an eye-opener for him, and he is like ‘ah okay’. So that’s a possibility for me as well. So, yes, top game. He looked really, sharp for the whole 90 minutes.”

Although Jones has been a regular fixture in Liverpool’s starting lineup this season, he does have one noteworthy flaw: he tends to hang onto the ball too long during counterattacks or transitions. Against the Hammers, the England U21 international showed encouraging indications of growth. He finished with 13 passes towards the final third, two chances generated, a 93 percent pass accuracy, and a fantastic brace.

Liverpool had 67% of the ball in possession. Additionally, they executed 595 passes, alongside an accuracy rate of 87%. West Ham, on the other hand, attempted 304 passes resulting in a 71 percent accuracy rate. Attack-wise, Liverpool outperformed the Hammers, managing 29 shots, 11 of which were on goal. Only two shots were attempted by West Ham, with only one going in.
