Argentine Football legend, Lionel Messi, has achieved the ultimate goal of winning the World Cup. In the 2022 FIFA World Cup final held in Qatar, Messi led Argentina to victory against France with a 4-2 win in penalties after a thrilling match that ended in a 3-3 draw.

The match was full of twists and turns, with Argentina taking the lead in the 23rd-minute through a penalty conversion by Messi himself. Angel Di Maria then scored in the 36th-minute to make it 2-0, but Kylian Mbappe staged a comeback for France. He scored two goals in quick succession, leveling the match at 2-2.

In extra-time, Messi put Argentina back in the lead with a goal in the 108th-minute, but once again, Mbappe equalized to make it 3-3. The match went to penalties and Argentina emerged victorious with a 4-2 win.

A month after the victory, Messi spoke about the World Cup final and hinted at a possible retirement. In an interview with UrbanaPlay of Buenos Aires, he said, “It has finally come at the end of my career. A closing cycle to be honest. Finally, I have achieved everything with the national team. The World Cup was something I always dreamt of. I have achieved everything in my career now. It was about uniquely closing my career. I had never imagined that this will happen to me.”

He added, “I have no complaints and I can’t ask for anything more. We won Copa America in 2021 and now the World Cup, for me there’s nothing left.”

Messi has won every possible trophy in club football, including multiple UEFA Champions League titles, and with Argentina, he has won the Copa America, Olympics, and the World Cup. With his contract with Paris Saint-Germain set to expire this summer, it wouldn’t be a surprise if the former Barcelona man decides to retire.
