Rating IPL 2024 Teams: Ranking teams based on their performance – CricTracker (Source -IPL/BCCI)

Indian Premier League 2024 is at the end phase of the league with the four teams qualifying for the playoffs. The first playoff match of IPL 2024 will witness the table-topping Kolkata Knight Riders take on Sunrisers Hyderabad who ended at number 2 on Tuesday. The first eliminator meanwhile will witness Royal Challengers Bengaluru play the Rajasthan Royals on Wednesday.

These four teams will now try to win the IPL 2024 title. Six other teams had started with the same vision of winning the title. During the season, the rest of the teams were left behind either due to their bad performances or bad luck.

Chennai Super Kings who had come into the season as the defending champions sadly didn’t qualify for the playoffs. Mumbai Indians on the other hand were plagued by their issues and the five-time champions ended the season with one of the miserable showings.

Here are the ratings for all 10 teams based on their performance after the league stage in IPL 2024:

10. Mumbai Indians 2/10

With all the drama that happened off the field, one hoped the Mumbai Indians to rally around and put on a strong show. That didn’t happen sadly as Hardik Pandya’s return to the team as the captain ended in a huge failure. The lack of leadership and a few key batters not being in form plus the lack of a quality spinner hurt the chances for Mumbai Indians making them the first team to be eliminated from the season.

9. Gujarat Titans – 2/10

Just like Mumbai Indians, the change in captaincy seemed to affect the entire composition of the team. Shubman Gill tried his best to take his team to the playoffs but the weight of expectations did affect his batting. Shubman Gill did play an epic inning against Chennai Super Kings but it was too little and too late for the IPL 2022 winners who made a quiet exit from the tournament.

8. Punjab Kings – 3/10

The team from Punjab will rue the fact that despite their huge investment yet another season has gone to waste. For all their inconsistencies, Punjab Kings have been one of the better sides when playing away from home. Their win over Chennai Super Kings will always be one of the biggest highlights of the IPL 2024 season.

7. Lucknow Super Giants -3/10

KL Rahul and his team had come into the season to make it to the playoffs for the third time and possibly win the title. Justin Langer who was the coach of the Australian 2021 T20 World Cup was tasked with the responsibility of leading LSG to their 1st title. Marcus Stonis’ century in Chennai was what the fans will remember the season to be. Mayank Yadav was another name that emerged and made his name with some fiery bowling. At the end of the day, it wasn’t enough as LSG couldn’t even make the playoffs.

6. Delhi Capitals – 4/10

Ricky Ponting and Rishabh Pant formed a good duo and helped Delhi Capitals improve their performance. Jake Fraser-McGurk was another name that became the talk of the IPL with his stellar batting show. Rishabh Pant and his side fell just short of making it to the playoffs but with players like Tristan Stubbs coming through they will be a huge threat in the next few seasons.

5. Chennai Super Kings – 5/10

CSK ( Source: IPL )

It isn’t easy when a figure like MS Dhoni steps down as the captain a youngster like Ruturaj Gaikwad takes over the reins. While the transition seemed easy at the start a few losses at home marred the chances for CSK to retain their title. Once being a certainty in the playoffs the do-or-die game against RCB was nothing but a heartbreaking moment for all the fans of the men in yellow.

4. Royal Challengers Bengaluru – 6/10

At the halfway stage of the tournament, Royal Challengers Bengaluru were hot favourites to become the first team to be knocked out. Six wins from six matches though turned the season around for RCB as they made it to the final four of the IPL 2024 season in grand style.

3. Sunrisers Hyderabad – 7/10

Pat Cummins’ elevation to become the captain of the Sunrisers Hyderabad side paid rich dividends. The Australian led the team with an iron fist and made it the most entertaining team of the entire tournament. Twice the SRH team created records for the highest team total in IPL as Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, and Heinrich Klaasen dominated the bowlers across the season.

2. Rajasthan Royals – 8/10

If we ignore the four losses in four games, Sanju Samson and his side had a near-perfect tournament with the bat and ball. When in form the Royals have dominated the opposition and didn’t give the others an inch to make a comeback. The likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Trent Boult, and Riyan Parag in particular made it a great season for the men in pink.

1. Kolkata Knight Riders – 9/10

KKR vs MI. (Source -IPL/BCCI)

The return of Gautam Gambhir seemed to light a fire as the old guard of KKR came to life. Sunil Narine and Andre Russell in particular showed why they are regarded as one of the biggest assets in the T20 format. Shreyas Iyer’s team outplayed every opponent with their aggressive brand of cricket to become the first-ever side to reach the IPL 2024 playoffs.
